Hi, I bought a WSC Century (my first Seagull) from ebay with the intention of using it as an auxilliary on my 13 ft Dory. The maxim you get what you pay for has never been truer and on starting it for the first time it was obvious from the lack of telltale and the steam leaking from a crack between 'British' and 'Seagull' on the block that it had some serious cooling issues. Mind you it was bought as parts or breaking so I wasn't really expecting much. I decided then that it would be a good project just to strip it down and see what the damage really was.
Having removed the cylinder head I have begun the process of clearing out the rusted water channels. It looks like it is this corrosion that has caused the water jacket to expand and crack. I am trying to gain access to examine the exhaust port externally to see whether there are any cracks here. The cylinder bore looks fine all round but I'd like to completely strip the block down now I've started the project.
My question is how easy should it be to seperate the power unit from the transmission and so allow me to remove the exhaust tube? The Service manual makes it sound easy (remove the two 5/16th nuts and lift off the power unit) but mine just ain't coming apart.
Many thanks
David

Re: Power Unit/Transmission seperation
Sounds like your drive tube is stuck, probably in the bottom drive, maybe a bigger hammer.
