I'm getting close to getting it to run. The ewart taps I have are all threaded at the fuel line connection instead of the push on arrangement of the original on the left. Had some fine gauze but can't locate it, to make a new filter. I'll have to procure some more or pinch one from another tap. No rush, the motor has been idle for a decade or so.
Trouble with these new fangled recoil starters you can't feel the motor through the rope. With the pulley and rope you can become one with the motor.... peace man
Correct plug is/was the RN4C - not sure it is still current, or if you have to use an equiavalent now.
Curious about the lack of fliter in your fuel tap I've just had one of the same age and type out, and it doesn't look as if the recess is intended to be a register for a filter, though I find it difficult to imagine Seagull would have left one out
Woo Hoo! Got the old girl running. Runs fine out of water but when in water only runs long enough for water to pump into water jacket and then stalls rather quickly. Very high compression for the first revolution on restart and starts again which, I surmise, is due to water entering the firing chamber. Considering the corrosive state of the water cooled head, I wouldn't be surprised if replacing head and gasket doesn't rectify this problem.
Idles well and is very responsive to twist throttle. Revs very fast when lifting tiller arm. Stop switch operates. Gearbox and clutch lever operating perfectly as well. No fuel drips anywhere . No water from telltale but again new head should fix this, if not some clearing of jacket......
Exhaust tube is being a real muther to get off. Always have trouble with these. Heat and WD40 I guess and some raw Aussie expletives. Surprisingly the allen key holding the pipe in posi removed easily. Motor and leg separated easily enough too. Apparently the water tube can seize in the water pump housing, but not this time. Exhaust..... strike me lucky it is in good nick. Slight corrosion where the rubber O ring sat to stop water inlet pipe from rattling on exhaust. Will need to make new exhaust gasket or acquire one. I'm assuming an exhaust gasket will require different material to the norm?

I'm beginning to think this motor hasn't had a lot of use but has been exposed to the elements for a while. So far every fastener has released easily..... how unseagull is that!
