Wipac Mk3 ignition on Century models.

Post by 40TPI »

A vulnerable late Featherweight model 45, EFSxxxAA0, left here today at sunset with it's owner , heading towards the Black Country, for an Easter of carp fishing on the Grand Union. The motor recouperated here after terrible abuse at the hands of a courier which left it with a smashed tiller stub and gaping crankcase following passage from Exeter persuant to an Ebay transaction.
(John at SOS was able to supply a brand new crankcase at short notice with reamed to pattern mains and stamped with the original serial number at an exceedingly reasonable cost). This just goes to show that three layers of bubble wrap are just not enough to prevent serious injury and abuse to a Seagull in transit.... Always collect your 'Gull in person or insist on a timber transit case!

But to the serious question... The flywheel on this model 45 had two Woodruff keyway slots. There was a keyway slot marked "for use with Century" as well as the slot for use as a Featherweight model 45. Did BS actually supply this same flywheel and CDI unit and plate for late (Silver ) Centurys?, or does this immediately become models 75 ,80 , 90 & 110?

Another post this weekend will follow up on the investigation of Seagull efficency as a heat engine after checks on a range of models and a calibration of the test method. (Sad indictment on availability of a suitable hull and open water at Easter...........)
