Hi fellow seagull owners.
Just found this forum and wanted to introduce myself.
I've recently returned to the UK after 10yrs working in Bermuda and New Zealand and I have to agree with other posters that they have some pretty spectacular racing there in those countries.
Just finished putting a Silver Century back together and am now trying to decide what hull to use.
Hoping to get some Seagull racing in the UK. (Newburn to South Shields on the Tyne could be a plan)

Hello too you as well Robbo, Fatchance here. I have lately had part of my life rerouted by a EFPC40/55 through no fault of my own. Before I knew it the thing had taken control of my time and made me want to bring others of it's kind to bed. Now my WIFE wants to go to "De Race" and I have been informed by the experienced race-ists, that I am: too old, too fat, too ignorant, too poor, do not have a boat in Bermuda, can't get one, would be a hazard to navigation, tie up the chase boat all day baby sitting us, would not be able to take the heat of the sun, I ca'y drink enough, and my Gull is too little. Being you are a seasoned vet of the race, would you be of a mind to help fill in some of the minor gaps in my knowledge and thus alleviate some of the sins of ignorance from which I suffer. To whit--How does one find a boat to let or borrow or some such in Bermuda? What can two old, fat (but thinning)folks from central Texas do to find a berth not too dear for ten days or so, how can we help, is there a group to join or email, and should we just give up?

Hello all and esp. Manifold and Rollo. I am also a new guy and was welcomed like an old chum by CharlesUK, beyond my expectations. Must say I am still trying to get about in the Forum and so another try. Does anyone know if the 102 cylinder will fit up to a 40/55 crankcase since the stroke, I think...., is the same. She Who Must Be Obeyed has decreed that we must do the RISR this next June and I have a E model 40. Seems that is not enough thrust to finish job and with a red headed Irish woman, poor performance is not an option. A search, and bidding wars on Ebay US has netted mostly excessive prices or boat anchor 102's all seized up. No visions of grandure here, we have seen the videos, but only wish to enjoy the folks, show the Texas Flag for the first time at RISR, and keep up with the back of the pack. Any insight would suffice and I will endevour to avoid cowboy homily , not try to out drink the Kiwis, and speak the Queen's English as correctly as I can.

Hi Fat chance,
A 102 is not to bad an Outboard to start with, they go quite well. A Silver century would be the next choice or maybe one of these new fangled 5Rs and Kingfishers are possible, not sure if you guys got them in the states. The mighty Waikato Race in Nz is always a possibility, us Kiwis would even supply an engine and boat if you are keen.

A 102 cylinder will not mate up to a 40 crankcase, for starters the 102 cylinder attaches with 4 bolts, and the 40 uses only 2. Not sure if you were thinking of using a 40 for the RISR, but if you were I would suggest that is not a feasible option. Firstly no one here uses the 53cc Seagull for the RISR and secondly, getting that engine here (or any other for that matter) is not easy. Checked baggage might work if it is completely disassembled and transported ar parts and even then everything needs to be very clean, no traces of oil, gas etc. Shipping it here via ship is an option, but you would still have to get it to the NJ or FL and at the end of the day still nto cost effective. Your best bet is to arrange to borrow a boat and motor for the RISR or arrange to go as crew with a Bermudian. This second option is probably your best bet as many will be reluctant to loan out boat and motor to someone who does not know the island and its many reefs. Going as crew with someone will give you the opportunity to get to know some people, see the race course and hone up on your drinking skills.
