New Carbs for old Seagulls

What size are these carbs?

Most of the carbs I could find were 26mm, that's a little big, but there were a few 19mm, too big for a Villiers carbed motor but might be suitable to replace the twin jet, If you could find a 16mm one, it should be just about perfect.

Well the Amal carb (416) that was probably fitted to your Century had a 23mm throttle slide but had a 16mm venturi (throat).

Just love your thaughts on SOS, I have a 102 with a later fuel tank as the original was that bad & i like my seagulls to still be reliable & usable.

Just a quick query, which model Silver c. would be having reverse? Amagical S motor is on US Ebay presently and the fellow is mighty proud of it. Sounds too good to be true, eh!

THE ART OF THE BITSA

A bitsa by our definition is a Seagull that equals or exceeds the original in looks, performance or engineering cleverness.

There was a replacement Seagull carb in one of the cars, it would have been very interesting to compare the performance of the 2 in identical conditions, a brand new carb that's identical in performance for less than £30.00 could well be a godsend.

The Atom clone is a slightly different discussion.

Seagull points ignitions have with a little TLC, given sterling service for a minimum of 30 & a maximum of 80 years, a very hard act to follow!

The points ignition don't tend to fail in use they just won't bloody start, whereas the Atomclone if it proves not man enough for the job, will tend to fail in use, not a problem on the upper reaches of the Thames, but could cause some concerns if your planning any salt water use.

I would be much happier if before pronouncing these as the answer to a maidens prayer, someone did some proper testing perhaps a little more than 40 minutes on the Thames at 3000 revs.

Yesterday, yours didn't look the easiest to start, do you have any views on that?

Well Manifold, i guess the important thing is it all worked well & you at least Enyoyed your self! (Taken on board your sugestion of ally U extrusion will definitly try that next). My tohatsu OB ive mounted the module externaly so it can be replaced easily if ever necessary.
