Drive shaft stuck -- Fourty Plus
The final drive and crown-wheel gear to the prop on my 40+ is jammed and the square drive-shaft is stuck solid on the bevel pinion square drive. I have tried to release the square drive-shaft with easing oil and as much force without damaging the casing without success so far. Once the shaft is released I will check the jammed final drive to the propeller problem and hopefully rectify, but any advice to help separate the square drive-shaft from the pinion would be appreciated.

I seem to remember I used an engineers G cramp and wood to preload it then whopped it with a hammer - I don't know if this will work!!

I find that if you get the square drive tube hot with a blow lamp near the pinion, then bash a 5/16" rod down the square tube with a hammer.
If you hold the square drive tube when you hit the rod with the gearbox in the air, most of the force is transfered to the pinion.
Put something soft on the floor under the gearbox, so when it comes off it does not hit the ground hard.
If it is very bad you will need to grind it off.

I had to do that when stripping one of my 102s. I carefully grind down then use a sharp chisel to prise off the remains. Just take your time! The pinion was unmarked when it all came off. You will of course need a new shaftHorsley-Anarak wrote:If it is very bad you will need to grind it off.
