Post by roxylass »

as above, had to take the head off to clear all the crud out no choice im afraid eng no esc 181 hh1, took about four hours water passages clean as a whistle now.
i did have to take the block of the piston so i could sit it on my lap for easier working, had a little fiddling getting the piston back in but with a bit care got it back in.
pushed the rings back in with my fingers, everything back togrther as it should be did,nt see anything lying about my feet.
got it in the test tank first pull backfire another ten pulls nothing, fuel reaching the carb ok very good spark followed the workshop manual.
all help very wellcome.

Sounds like you could have the CDi base plate round the wrong way, so you are getting the spark at the wrong time.

The HT lead should come through the plate just above the Amal carb.

did,nt take the flywheel off as it is the domed style with the three legs underneath just took the plug cap off and took the plug out.
tried to start again this afternoon choke open carb full each time backfire the spark plug does get wet but sparks well.
the ht lead is above the carb.
