Carb cylinder not head . Still rubbing - only one worn out finger so far. As the actress said to the bishop

You need what is called in the trade as a frigging stick. A piece of dowel with a slot part down its lenth and wrapped in wet and dry. This saves a sore finger and gives an even finish

Thanks for that one , Graham. Worked a treat. Turned down a shade on an old unimat lathe from a brush steel (wooden broom handle) . Changed my slightly oval hand rubbing into a smooth round bore

Gave it a twenty minute run yesterday in the barrel. Slipping into gear but I can sort that by turning the clamp. Still leaking fuel from the two holes in the carb float chamber.
Is there a setting for float/needle ? Or is it just trial and error ? Maybe I need a new needle

Terry i slid the float down the needle a tad it stoped the leaking problem i had and still allowed fuel to flow give it a try. (1 tad = 2mm 2 tads = to much)
give it a try not guaranteed but it worked for me !

Decided to get my SD out for a good run up, before putting away until the spring. Also fitted the brass inlet trumpet :P

Started first pull, and seemed much sweeter, suspect the new inlet helps. Heres a video:

Love the sound of the 102's and it smokes just as much as mine but then it is old enough to smoke.
Brilliant job. Little differences -- mine does not have a copper fuel pipe or a brass tiller arm
Any results from those doing thread repairs/inserts on the amal carb

The brass tiller arm is actually incorrect. It should be steel, painted black. I have one, but have not got around to cleaning it up and painting it. I agree the 102 is my favourate seagull, when all is running well it will tick over slowly and you can feel the kick of each firing stroke :P

Regarding the thread repairs, a mate with a lathe has agreed to make me a couple of banjo bolts with a UNF thread. Once they are made it is just a matter of fitting a UNF helicoil to the carb body :P

I have a SD carb to repair, and yours will be number 2.

I believe John is in the process of collecting a batch of these faulty throttle bodys so that they can be re sleeved & then sold on an exchange basis, without the need for a new banjo bolt.

For a location that has little or no access to oxygen as it's always covered with two-stroke oil & petrol, the corrosion can only be galvanic, adding a third or forth metal to the mixing pot might well increase the problem.

Next project was going to be full restoration of WSPCL . Sadly the amal 2 jet looks in worse condition than the one on my old SD.
I may use the good bits to build one good one and fit an amal 416 to the Century. I assume that is not a problem ?
badly filled throttle body - cable entry messed with

Perfect fit ... sadly weather not been nice enough for a short run
Won't be on the sea though... ACR will be soon.

I'm in the process of fixing up an old SD myself
Can anyone tell me if the float bowl should be on the left or right hand side of the carb - or if it even matters?

The general consensus is that the bowl is closer to the tank.

Nice brass carb. I thought they only came with the later SD's so is good to see one on an early SD. Niander is after one of those.... :D
