So what are your plans with this Tam? Clean, service and reassemble or full resto?

Looking at the engine number the second last letter/digit will be an L or P. Considering the placement of the punch marks it seems to be more likely to be a P which makes the motor a tad earlier than first thought but not by much.

Haven't we recently seen another motor with an engine # obliterated with a punch? Which motor was that? Odd technique.

Enjoy your malt.... a fine drop.

Looks good Tam. I've decided to give mine a clean and service for now. Goes against the grain for me, but want to see how it comes up with a limited resto. Can always be redone later or if I change my mind.

By the way, what are your intentions re the barrel/cylinder? How is it going to be finished?

Thanks & regards

That is it finished spent Sunday morning tinkering with it even polished the good bit's hoping to find some motivation for the rebuild I'm afraid with a dodgy serial number and a missing original clamp i have no doubt that this will be the end of this motor hopefully get some others up and running along the way.......nice matching crankcase number's though shame about serial number....yes I'm Scottish and don't spend money.

Lol, I have so many on the go I'm feeling the same way, a little overwhelmed atm.

Reason I asked about your barrel is because mine still has approx 60% of the original plating visible. So I want to maintain that, but also want to prevent the rest rusting over. Therein lies the dilemma, how do I proceed? Oil, clear coat, or are there any other options worth considering?
