Just bought a classic Johnson, 11 years older than my little 40 and sadly in much worse condition, but on the bright side it was only £13.50!

I like the Johnson Evinrude twins.
You will need a couple of coils i expect, bought my last ones from Texas as it was way cheaper.
I have this slightly later 6hp and I love it, powerful and quiet.

Funny you should say that, I have just been poking round the ignition system, only 1 plug has a spark, peeping in the inspection hole the insulation is falling apart, so I'll add them onto the list!

:) told you, I have 4 6hp twins and they all needed coils, worth getting it going as they are great engines.

Good to hear, this one has had a hard life. The recoil start mounts are all broken off the engine so it's going to need a visit to the tig, the gear shift is also erratic so I'll be stripping the bottom end which was worryingly dry when I pulled the drain plug, it's currently full of engine oil to melt the black sticky grease that has helpfully been stuffed in there. It's taken a couple of days soaking and rocking to get the steering swivel to move.
I almost feel the Seagull is sitting beside it laughing, after 30 years of laying in a shed it needed a new plug and a quick service to go back into service!
