Hi all

I have been given the opportunity today to purchase a Perkins 18hp motor.
This is the third one I know of/have heard about in West Aus.
Only info I know is from Peter Hunn's old outboard book, and it isn't exactly in depth about the 18 Perkins. I know it was only produced in 1963 by Perkins, before the sale to rootes marine.

Can anyone else shed some light for me?

Perkins bought the rights to a US outboard which they rebadged under their name, anzani were part of this, but I don't remember the details. Was it Martin outboard, made by Anzani for a year or two, then Perkins took over? I can't remember.

Anyway, interest project as long as it is cheap if you get my drift.

Perkins bought out Oliver outboards.
I believe there were some changes mechanically as well though...

I have one the same rotting in the garden, only until it goes down the dump, I looked into doing it up some time ago, but coils are £100+ each.

Do you have the female fuel connector fitting for it? If so, would you consider selling it as I need one. See pic attached.

I think I'm going to be lucky with this one, it followed me home so fingers crossed.

Here I'm not sure lucky would be the right word!

I'm informed by the UK expert that in 54 Oliver bought the Chris Craft outboard business which in 59 was sold to Perkins, in 63 the outboard division was closed & sold to the Rootes car group, who then sold it on to British Anzani later that year.

As Keith illustrates these are not considered desirable enough to be worth keeping in the dry, I've seen small Chris Crafts go for Seagull money.

The 18 hp Perkins is 325cc with a bore & stroke of 63.5 x 51.6.

Ah yes I thought that Anzani were involved somewhere! As you say Charles not particularly desirable. That said I have 2 mallards and 2 ferriers that seem to have the same description!

Mallards & Ferriers, I would say were much more lusted after by serious UK outboard collectors, more desirable than Anzanis & classic Seagulls, the problem is that there are not many collectors with enough secure storage space in this overcrowded country, 50 outboards is more than a UK double garage will hold, so we are forced to specialise.

I don't have any Ferriers, but do have half a dozen Mallards but not an 75.

No sorry, not got any fuel connectors, I had a 6hp, but scrapped that, I just saved the badges and some other odds and ends off that, the one in the garden is a 16hp and that will go the same way, both Perkins.

I have the small mallards, with the poppet valve. Probably more use as as a strimmer than pushing a boat, but good fun anyway.

I consider myself lucky with this because I have the only Perkins in an outboard collection in west Australia, and there are only three known to be in WA. The other two I do not know of their whereabouts. I am fortunate enough to have enough storage space for 50+ outboards so I do not need to concentrate on one particular marque of outboard.
There are only two Ferriers I know of here, one Steve green in Mandurah has and another that on Saturday I helped find a new home.
Spiro, I was inclined to think along those lines.

I see the Perkins as desirable over here as no one has one over here except me now.
