Dependable

Post by shistlepot »

Acquired the power head for a Dependable outboard. I did not think it would be in The old Outboard book but it is.

The tank is all aluminium and the motor is a Hurrican Lawn mower engine. It has an English Amal carb. Shame the leg is missing
Love the tank. ED

I am not sure, I do not have a Waterboy.
I was just shocked to see it in The Old Outboard book.

You find interesting stuff 8)

I will scan a couple of things re engine sizes between the two and some other info relating this weekend.

One thing will be that the carb should not be English nor an Amal to be correct.

Carb is homework for you in the meantime. Get your reading glasses on

The castings were generic by the mid 60s. Anyone selling their own brand could have one.

There was a recoil made for that style of tank.

Thanks for the info Bruce, I thought you would come good with Aussie stuff.

I was doing some weeding in the garden near a soil tiller I had stored away . Omegosh does that look like its got a Hurrican
motor on it. Sure enough and Closer inspection on the motor revealed an Amal Carb. However the one on the Depenable is
not.

The gear box Identified it as a Veroatiller, Made by Farmfitters P/L Melbourne.

So now I have a spare motor for the Dependable if I manage to get the rest of the leg etc. Speaking of interesting stuff
I will post another early Aus outboard in 2-3 weeks time thats really rare I think. I'm off on a cruise around Kiwi Land, don't think
I will be able to smuggle any outboards onto the Ship if I find some.

The filler plate over the Tank is that cast aluminium as well?

Hi Chris, you are correct, I just did a search on the Hurricane engines and got onto a site that lists What their various
engines were used for

The 125 engines were used for the Waterboy Outboards. And the head and cylinder were all cast in one

The 125A had a removable alloy Cylinder head.

Funny, it does not mention that they were used for the Dependable outboards.

Really?

Interested in that.

Sounds like a something completely different source to me.
