Charles eating H-A's wake, through will power alone - imagine how fast he would have gone if he had fitted a fuel tank to his engine.....
The super safety boat doing safe things serenly:-
To the victors - the spoils; H-A wearing the champion's Seagull cap and struggling with smallish crewmen to support the huge trophy. Jan looking resplendent in trophy Seagull cap for entrant who covered the most sea miles - even if not necessarily in the right direction...
A great day out - thrills, spills, smoke (10 to 1 and 25 to 1), sand, sea, sun, and hmmm, well some seagulls....
Well done to all, a great day on the water.

Nice pickies and film, your text is brilliant Robin!
Today I talked with Martin about the great time we had in Itchenor and during the ‘Round Hayling Island Marathon’.
We definitely coming to Itchenor in 2012 and hope to bring more Dutch Seagull enthusiasts.
Hopefully the Dutch will not exceed the number of British entrants in 2012.

Spoke to Helen at Itchenor Sailing Club today to convey our gratitude for their efforts to make us feel so welcome & for starting their weekend a day early for the Dutch team.
Their response was, glad you had a good time & hope to see more of you next year, I don't think that means nude dining H-A.
It looks like the next event will be the Wallingford waddle on the Thames that's any boat any engine, down to Seagull for an icecream then up river to Wallingford for lunch, or the other way round, whatever.
Then the North Midlands SD / 102 extravaganza.
Don't know what John's plans are for a meet up over that side of the globe.

As the harbour is quite large it should be possible to have a 40+/- class that follows a different route.
They could start at the same time and place, follow the pack down to East Head mark.
Then they could go up to the bridge then back to the start, that would be about 15 miles.
The 40+/- class would start and finish with the other classes, which would work.
I could have put two additional boats in this class on Saturday. Both boats were not up to the open sea bit, but would have been fine in the harbour.
Robin you could have set the record with your Tinker Tramp and 40+ ( P.S. Thanks for the caps and help, I look forward to seeing your pictures).
Would there be any takers for the 40+/- short route ?

Yes - me for sure. I know Chi Harbour well and the bar at ISC even better. My 40 Minus would enjoy being stretched again in the very waters it first ran in back in 1967 when I got it for my Mirror dinghy.
Count me in for the 2012 40+/- group outing.

Could be a viable late summer 40+- run, not a race just an outing to let people explore Chichester harbour, and have a picnic.trw999 wrote: Yes - me for sure. Might tempt them to have a go next year, in the real thing .

Could Charles manage the power of the 40+? would we need a 40+ modified class?

I have found another safety boat and driver for next year.
But he does need to fix a date in the diary, as he has other sailing commitments.
Do we need to look at the tide times Charles L ?

Robin would be the most likley candidate for the supply of next years tide table.
Can you help Robin? we just need May & June,s tides so we can pick the best non bank holiday weekend.
IF you can, could you email H-A & myself those 2 pages.

First Ever Seagull British (Olympic) event
Hi Charles, will send asp when I get sea room.
Hmmm, May or June event will be a useful warm up for the slightly grander boating bash at Portland later in the summer.
So I take it you are going to mount the first ever Seagull British (Olympic) event in history!
Count me in......I can supply a suitable Seagull Olympic torch if you or Alan perhaps could supply an AA battery...... medals will be harder to come by however....

Now that Christmas is out of the way.
"Hayling Island 2012 European and British Isles Event"
Charles and I have been looking at suitable dates, and the only Saturday with the correct tides is 21st July.
What we need is to know the level of interest, to see if this date is viable.
Also we will need to see if the same venue it available for accommodation.
We will do the same round the island as this year, but also if people want a 40+/- event running in the harbour at the same time.
All planned to start at the same time and finish at the same time.
If you are interested please post a response.

Re: Proposed Seagull Marathon early next summer 2011 May/Jun
Unfortnately I will probably have to miss the proposed Hayling marathon spectacular as I will be away at a lesser event (Olympic sailing). Pleiades migrates to Weymouth from 1 April taking her Seagull flock with her.
I hope you can get a good day out, certainly better weather than today - was out sailing and twas a bit too breezy to get the Gull going. Am currently dangling on a Delta with 70 m of 10mm chain out hiding behind Pilsey Island from a F9 Westerly!
A very happy New Seagulling Year to all.
