Finally a decent boat!

Post by AusOB_Collector »

Hi all

As some of you know, I have been using a 2.7m Quicksilver inflatable dinghy as my testing platform, but recently have been having problems with it leaking.

I looked on gumtree this morning and found what I have been looking for - a 10ft ally dinghy for a decent price. No idea of manufacturer but as long as it is watertight I don't really mind.

I will be picking it up this Saturday, and need to get it licensed as well.

As I have not thought of a name for it yet, would any of you be kind enough to submit some suggestions?

Cheers

Quite a difficult thing trying to come up with a name for a vessel. (sometimes a personal thing too)

I've named my big boat "RACHEL" after one of my friends who's no longer with us any more (god bless her)

Well done Boyd. You will have a lot of fun with that.

Here is a forum topic which makes good reading.

How about "WOT Knot"

Cheers

Being an aluminium tinny and having a seagull on the back there can only be a few good names for it..... Joint! Tinny! or Smokin' and you will have to re paint it Green!

And just for the record I don't smoke!

There are some funny names in that thread Bruce. 8)

Hi All

Thanks for the suggestions... Have been thinking about it for a while.
For any of you that have seen the old movie 'The ship that died of shame' you may remember the torpedo boat, "1087".
A remark was made that when I was cruising along the shimmering reflection of the boat revoked a memory of the "1087" going along in the movie.

As a result, I think I might name it the "1087".

As a sidenote, there is a nice 102 (SD I think) on the back of a dinghy in the movie as well...

Cheers

A 10 foot tinnie named after a torpedo boat

Mate, whatever it is you take for breakfast, I want some

How about naming it OWACC?

I'll let you figure that one out.

Bacon & eggs does the trick Spiro!!

Maybe the fact that they're both painted white has something to do with it...

I enjoy a bacon and egg breakfast also, but it doesn't seem to have quite the same effect on me

I usually don't name my boats but had to pick a name for the center console powerboat we bought while stationed in Key West, FL. Was a requirement as the call sign for licensing the VHF radio I installed on the boat. After much deliberation we put "End Decision" on the VHF license application while in real life usage it sounds like "Indecision". The latter more accurately describes the whole naming process.
