Re: Is my seagull overheating??

Id agree that if you have a good water flow you should be Ok What you see is not just a telltale like other outboards. It is the full cooling water flow outlet. It should be running at just about full bore, not under any pressure but the stream should be equivalent to the size of the outlet. When id...

Re: Rules of the sea

Thanks guys. This is a nice wee 5.3mtr boat so a crew is not required but I will go down to Troon marina or Largs, and enquire about any courses. You need to know a good bit of the "International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at sea" Often known as the collision regulations or col...

Re: Regular backfire

My CPC is running OK for a while, but after some time it is giving backfires. At first once but after some time every minute. Takes back in rpm. but picks up again and runs until the next backfire. Where do I have to search for the cause of this problem? Evert A back fire or a "lean sneeze&quo...

Re: Need some help identifying a seagull

SAE 140 is the recommended gear oil for normal temperatures. EP90 in exceptionally cold conditions ( and for certain later models) 8 COM plugs are no longer available (unless you can find one on ebay etc). Modern equivalents include Champion D16 and NGK AB6 Post 1968 models can be converted to 25:1 ...

Re: newer villiers carb questions

Regarding the needle setting. I have converted my Featherweight to run on 25:1. Despite having changed the needle I have found it necessary to screw the adjusting screw a tad more than 3 turns down in order to get it to run without excessive 4-stroking. I suggest you try it as it is . If it needs ch...

Re: curious question

My Featherweight is what pushes my tender back and forth to the mooring.

I do also have a 40+ which I have not used for quite some time although it was bought to use with my Mirror dinghy, not as decoration.

There are other types of Bing carb but the number you quote is the correct type for the Seagull. It should have a needle. See the diagram on the SOS website.

Re: keeps cutting out

I take it by "leaning away from the carb opening" you mean leaning sideways a little not forwards or backwards, which is what could be compensated for by twisting the carb? you say leaning by 4m ?? You mean 4 mm I guess but measured how/ where. Presumably not over the entire shaft length ....
