Oval Long Range Tank, how wide is it?

Hi Folks, Hoping one of you can give me the dimensions of the Oval Long Range Tank, in particular how wide is it? Just rehung my rudder before ripping out the transom and installing a new Teak Transom. Will work out all the internal blocking for the outboard before I rebuild so need to know how much...

Re: New 1974 WSPCL327MM4

Well I don’t know anyone who keeps an outboard in the house but I do know someone who keeps his VFR in the living room! Once when the misses was away working I did bring my VFR into the kitchen to sort out some issues, no not dents in the tank! .

A lovely long shaft! Get your self a nice skiff and take it to sea, the sooner you get some dents in that tank the better!!

the pinion bush can be a 'interesting' oneto get out Hi Geoff, yes the pinion was well stuck with corrosion but luckily showing no signs of wear. Outboard 139.jpg Thanks for the offer of sharing or swapping parts I’ll keep you in mind. This Century Plus is now in good order and ready for service bu...

Re: Seagulls on the Murray

Great photo, it shows how well balanced the boat is fore and aft and the speed is just right for the length of the hull, good quarter wave and no stern wave to speak of. Very economic I would think?

Once every thing was cleaned up it was time to rebuild. Outboard 154.jpg Outboard 144.jpg Outboard 143.jpg Even the bracket that was painted white got the once over :). Outboard 122.jpg Back in the tank and it now has a good water flow just above tick-over. Outboard 165.jpg Cheers for now, Dave.

Re: It Seems to Be True!

As Geoff says it’s very therapeutic working on a Seagull I really enjoyed getting this one sorted. When it was tested in the tank it proved to be running well apart from not having any cooling water discharging, managed to get some water circulating after back flushing with a hose, So decided to str...

Re: It Seems to Be True!

Nice one Geoff, like the idea that they take up less space in parts!
Yes did manage to butcher one of the grub screw getting the old coil out, one side of the screw broke away. Made up a very small cold chisel and cut a new slot, was then able to back the old screw out and make up a new screw.

Re: It Seems to Be True!

With the old coil on the bench it was easy to test and there was no doubt that it was open circuit.

Cleaned up and waiting for the new coil.

New coil fitted and it’s a runner!.

Re: It Seems to Be True!

Thought I would update this with some photos of sorting this Century Plus. First as was when bought, New Century Plus 05.jpg Then as it is now. Outboard 172.jpg First task was to sort out the coil which was open circuit, here is the flywheel with a ball bearing set on top of the shaft, the bearing w...

Re: June 1963 seagull outboard wanted SJM SJP? F3?

If you have a spark run it with what you have, if you suspect the coil run some tests with a good metre, a coil in good condition will read 0.5 ohm on the primary windings and 3.5 kilo ohms on the secondary. It’s the fine windings on the secondary that usually fails. Measure the length of your coil,...

Re: June 1963 seagull outboard wanted SJM SJP? F3?

Good luck with your project, hope you find your Birth Gull. Villiers ignition, apparently it's a good upgrade to change to the later Wipac set up? The only thing wrong with the Villiers mag is the coil which deteriorates with age. A New coil made with better resins will solve that problem. Though I ...
