Re: Sad Death of our Webmaster

We are very sad to announce the sudden death, at the age of just 46, of our Webmaster Peter. In an effort to support his wife Kirsty, I have arranged with her that we can make donations to his old PayPal address, she can collect it from there. Anyone with a PayPal account can simply open their acco...

Re: Sad Death of our Webmaster

Hello all,

it has been suggested by a few that we set up a page on 'Just Giving' or some other website that accepts donations for charitable causes, and takes no fee.

Anyone any experience of this that can point us in the right direction??

Regards,
john

Sad Death of our Webmaster

It is with great sadness I have to report that Peter Webster died suddenly last Saturday. I was informed by one of the Forum Moderators who had been trying to contact him.. I had been in touch with him by mail just days before.... I have spoken to his wife Kirsty and she understandably is extreemly...

Re: Crankcases and Crankshafts

Hi Pinger. The 5 bolt cases of the Century, Silver Century and model 102 and the 4 bolt cases of the Forty Minus (Featherweight) and Forty Plus are both readily available as used cases. The 4 bolt case of those models always has just two boles for the cylinder base bolts, of the smaller cylinder. (t...

Re: Crankcases and Crankshafts

Hello Pinger, Yes the 64cc Forty models have the 4 bolt crankcases, the Century, Silver Century and the model 102 all share the 5 bolt case, but most, certainlu=y all the early model 102 motors had a different tiller stud etc. Earlier Little Forty cases also had 4 bolts, but were different again. Ho...

Re: Idiot's guide to fuel please

Gosh that takes me back to 1967.

Every time we paraded for duty we were given the details of all the Transit vans stolen in the last 24hours! And yes the Robbers favourites!

Re: Idiot's guide to fuel please

Hi Pinger,

I will have to ask my Bantam friends next time I see them! wonder if they were all red versions?

So akin to Seagulls, like Morris Minors and Landrovers, same sort of simple tech!

john

Re: Idiot's guide to fuel please

Hello All My Bantam can be seen on the page about Maddy the minor. http://www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/maddy_the_minor/maddy_the_minor.htm She is a 1958 D5, rebuilt over a couple of years and every now and again I go to local Bantam Club meetings to show her! But she is really just for me to go out...

Re: Gear oil and two stroke

Cannot quite see the relevance of the comments Pinger. Seagulls are simple machines with simple needs, so long as we keep them cared for, it need not be either expensive nor complicated. Lots of things have changed in the world, there have been loads of advances in all areas, but old Seagulls with w...

Re: Gear oil and two stroke

Hello Pinger, I do not doubt it for a moment, but who in their right mind is going to pay for that pricey oil when normal EP140 is available for £5.50 a litre here? If you get a load of odd oil from an unknown source, try it out first! As I said, not normally seen! Not in 30 plus years plus dealing ...

Re: Gear oil and two stroke

Another couple of corrections needed! British Seagull used to sell SAE and EP 140 and 90 oils. They are safe to use. The myth about yellow metal and GL oils I thought had been put to bed a long time ago. Seagulls do not care what grade the 140 is for non sealed boxes, nor, for the sealed boxes, what...

Re: Idiot's guide to fuel please

Hello Steve, A note of caution. TCW2 or 3 oils are recommended for Seagulls as they work at lower temperatures than oils for chainsaws, do not get them mixed! You cannot hug an air cooled motor when it is hot! they get a lot hotter, be it a lawn mower, chainsaw or even my old BSA Bantam. Different o...

Re: Crankcases and Crankshafts

Can I add a note of caution here to those who mix motors up. Though the 40 crank does in fact fit, it is lacking the counterweights on the crank. I have come across one motor in my time that wanted to vibrate itself off a transom, on stripping this was the problem. I thought it was the timing as som...

Re: Recoil starter parts

ever seen the part with multiple holes in it, not Seagull. The recoil with 4 little feet is one to bolt to the top of the after market, 'Siba' make rod cage. Two bottom castings are for the Seagull version of the Siba recoil, they bolt to the crankcase top part to hold the ignition base on a Wipac M...
