Its a funny thing. I have heard it said from more than one source that the float chamber should be mounted to the rear so that it is furthest away from the cylinder. But if you do that then you can't see the logo.

Re: Water pump impellor dimensions
However a pic of the gearbox would doubtless help. I have a couple, one is 50s and the other is 70s, so I can probably come up with something helpful.

Re: SJM 521R7
Here's two transom clamps I have... 40 Transom clamps.jpg The one on the right is the later one (obviously) and I've had a go at cleaning it up a bit. The one on the left was fitted to an FV. It is obviously smaller, but the finish seems odd to me - it is definitely made of bronze but appears to hav...

Re: Roys second 102 series build
Roy,
I am very pleased you received it in the end. It is an added bonus that the interesting postal system in SA didn't in the end gouge you for more cash. You would never have known where it was at all if it was not a tracked parcel, and doubtless never received it.
All the best
Martin

Re: just spotted this
Well, I recently went sailing in sheltered waters in a 16ft dinghy in what was reckoned to be a 23-knot blow. It was a bit white-knuckle, and I want more!!!! Outboard not needed. Also, I have just spent a couple of hours cleaning up some barrel nuts for my 102. What have I got to show for that? Shin...

Re: just spotted this
I was fascinated by the story of Henry Segrave and Gar Wood when I first heard of it. But what does this tale tell us? That despite cunning hull design and advanced engine tech, the guy with the biggest engine ultimately won? Well, perhaps. Its not the whole story to be sure.

Re: just spotted this
Be honest, that is the sort of ugly only a mother could love. Maybe if you were having a race it would be useful. The guy who made it said it was just done for fun. The question that intrigues me a little is whether he came up with this in isolation or if he is in some way connected to 'the scene'.

Re: SJM 521R7
Thanks Charles, I also ran it by John@SOS - he didn't think it had a cotton reel either! I don't believe he looked at his SJM though. I think the obvious explanation is that this SJM on ebay was either wearing a earlier transom bracket or someone switched the thrust block for the earlier part. Your ...

Re: SJM 521R7
It seems I mis-interpreted a comment made to me by Jeremy in an email. Here's an extract from a further statement: "From my data on the Early Series Fortys, it would appear that the cotton reels were probably fitted to all of them, but I am not at all certain of that. I must concentrate on coll...

Re: Gear oil and two stroke
It was mentioned that at one tine John@sos posted some useful stuff on the subject of oil but it has become lost in the mists of time. This isn't the only instance of such things – I once found by happy accident a great thread discussing engine rebuilding best-practice, but I’m buggered if I can fin...

Re: 102 fixed & clutch drive
But since I have only a few of the requisite parts it's so far a non-starter, Oh well, I'll just have to wait. I only want another clutched box as a spare anyway, to be honest. Thanks for the input though.
