Mine Won't Start Either....

I'm currently trying to get FP I220J0 flying again. For those that are interested - there are a few words and photos on the progress on my Website - https://myshed.mooo.com/Seagull-FPI220J0-Restoration.html FPI220J0 - Carby Side - Close Up.jpg This picture is of course prior to cleaning. I got the l...

Re: Heat Transfer - POR-15

Yes - I've used POR-15 many times before, but never on Seagulls. And Yes - it does need careful preparation - in other words, it should be done properly - which I have no issue with. Careful cleaning with Marine Prep, followed by a thorough drying, then primed with Metal-Ready, more drying and then ...

Heat Transfer - POR-15

I've currently got a few Seagulls stripped down and giving their water galleries a really good scrub and flush out. A couple of them are quite badly rusted - but not gone yet. I am (carefully) sand-blasting them to get them as clean as possible and I'm looking at ways to extend their life-spans as l...

Re: Forty Minus - SJM 666 L5

A mistake at the factory - that's an interesting thought. Charles uk - You're right - it does seem like an easy mistake to make, perhaps on a Friday afternoon when you're looking forward to the week-end after a big week at work. But then again - if you've been punching the letter "K" on en...

Re: Forty Minus - SJM 666 L5

It's a good thought, but this crankcase came in a bulk purchase of very dead Seagulls - this one has no flywheel on it :(

Re: Forty Minus - SJM 666 L5

I've been doing a bit more research - and now I know why the SOS Engine Identifier has been spitting out an error. You can find lots of information here: http://www.britishseagullparts.com/identification.htm or of course, here: http://www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/i_d_your_seagull/i_d_letters.htm Se...

Re: Forty Minus - SJM 666 L5

Thanks Raya.

What makes you narrow it down to Late 56/early 57?

How do the Month Codes work?

Cheers.

Forty Minus - SJM 666 L5

I've got the remnants of this little fella in my parts bin - it came as part of a bulk purchase from Queensland, Australia. I decided to look it up and see what I could see, but when I put this Engine No into the Engine Identifier, I get error - Invalid Month Code, but the rest of the info comes thr...

Re: Flywheel Removal

I didn't user a puller. I have never used one - I have seen too many knowledgeable, experienced people here on SOS warn against it. What you see in the pictures is the result of me getting carried away with a lump hammer. I'm after suggestions for how to get flywheels off when the hammer on the cran...

Flywheel Removal

BUGGER!!!! I just decided to remove the flywheels from all my parts engines - 13 in total. 12 of them the flywheel came off with a bit of coaxing - but the other one..... I tried everything: The traditional way - holding up by the flywheel, belting the nut on the end of the crank Penetrating Fluid H...

Re: I have a cunning plan......

I sorta came to the same conclusion. Despite the fact that the piston is really hard to move - the bore seems to be in surprisingly good condition. And that made me think it isn't the piston that is stuck. So Charles, thanks for being "the voice of reason" - I will pull the leg off it, and...

I have a cunning plan......

Will I either: a) Kill myself? or b) Kill my engine? I have a little Mariner 2 stroke outboard - sure its not a mighty Seagull, but the concept should be just as valid (or invalid) for a Seagull. It obviously won't work on a 4 stroke - unless the valves are stuck shut very tight, but a 2 stroke, if ...

AMAL 2 Jet Carb- Threads

Can anyone tell me the size/thread pitch for the two jets inside the AMAL 2 Jet Carby? I have a body that I would like to use, but the threads in the hole for one of the jets (the smaller of the two jets) is a bit chewed up, so I'd like to run a tap/thread chaser through it to clean it up. The threa...

W525A0 Lives!!!!

While I've been working on one of my other Seagulls - fighting to get all the corroded components apart, I've also been working on W525A0 - A Silver Century built in January 1970. I haven't tried to strip this one because it looked in much better condition, so I thought I might just try and massage ...

Re: Putting up a real fight!!!

I might just take you up on that very kind offer Hugz.

I'm out bush working at the moment, and won't be back to the Big Smoke for a few weeks, but when I do get back, I'm only about 20 minutes from you.

I reckon you can get the Locating Pins from John at SOS. so that won't be a drama.
