Re: Water Flow and Temperature

Thank you, Inspector. Those pictures clearly show how a cylinder head should appear compared with one with just enough garbage in it to retard cooling. It's easy to imagine cooling water entering from the bottom rear of the visible cavities straight upward & towards the right, then out the disch...

Re: Century 100 56/57

Hey, Grumpy, welcome to SOS. Regarding your interest in water cooling via a siphon line, this link may be of help - http://www.saving-old-seagulls.co.uk/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1510 ...and, there's a youtube video that covers this as well - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfjpVoazL2Q This engi...

Re: Comments on the 1st issue of 'The Gull'

Very nicely done, this first edition of a newsletter. Really good layout and the stories were fun. I may even have to build me one of those pointy-headed little boats just so I can run the engines more often.

Thank you!

Re: 102 oil mix

I'd have to agree with the others, that the benefit to these engines in using a generous oil mix outweigh any other consideration, if you want your engine to last. Being as I work for a state environmental regulatory agency, I should be the first one to say otherwise, though there are other routes o...

Re: Fuel level

Still haviing problems with the fuel level. The fuel float valve looks good to me, it is not perfect, but I would think it should stop the fuel flow. In any event I have ordered a new one. Is there a way to dress the valve seat? If the new valve doesn't work I guess that would be the next item to l...

Re: Hurricane Irene

A belated "thank you" for your concerns. This area (south of Philadelphia a ways) saw mainly strong winds and a ton of rain. Anyone with any sense at all got out of their homes if near the seashore or along a stream. Being as our seashore areas are thick with tourism this time of year, it ...

There is some interesting, even if a bit spirited and direct, commentary within this thread -

Re: If it helps

I'd call this a pretty complete synopsis of what's needed to both check out a potential barn-find or boot sale, or, to run through a working engine coming out of storage.

Re: Fuel Tap O Rings

Thanks Atoyot, I can use the corks as described. The O rings seemed a simple fix but are obviously not! I suspect that the dimensions given are wrong. Robert OK. Best of luck, and if you change your approach, give a holler. There's a lot of benefit to purchasing common replacement parts, though peo...

Re: Fuel Tap O Rings

+1 A replacement cork piece can be made from a wine cork. Take a drill bit and run a hole through one that hasn't been torn up too badly by removal from its original purpose. Your bit should be about the size of the valve piece's shaft where the original seal came from. Next, cut the cork down leng...
