Re: Essex Flocking of Seagulls!
Rob It's plenty wide enough. Deep draught vessels can use the river up to Baltic Wharf at all states of the tide. We race 30' International Dragons every Saturday and Sunday from March through to November and can get good courses in every time. It may not be wide by general Oz standards, but it does...

Re: Essex Flocking of Seagulls!
Ah well, my thinking is that whoevergets in first must have some heavily breathed on whizzo Gull. Also, if everyone waits for the final finisher we shall all be thirsty for a long while! Let's compromise - first one in and last one in both have to buy a round. As we say when we are racing, it is the...

Re: Essex Flocking of Seagulls!
[quote="Horsley-Anarak"]I will be there, is it a race? Is it salty? Do I bring old stuff or sea engines? Will there be a prize giving and a raffle? [quote] Not a race as far as I understand it though I am sure there will be some 'spirited motoring'! Yes, the Crouch is tidal. Do you mean do...

Re: Essex Flocking of Seagulls!
TRW999 - does 'quintessential' mean expensive? Silly me, of course it does. RBT Sounds like you have found it already, http://www.ferryboatinn.net/ At £70 a night for a double, sounds reasonable in this day and age, plus "Bar meals are served every day from 12 to 2 lunchtime and 7 to 9.30 in t...

Re: Essex Flocking of Seagulls!
This is a Seagull engine flock - think of the Lerryn, the Thames, the Bermuda and the New Zealand flocks all rolled into one, on the beautiful River Crouch in the county of Essex, one of the most unspoilt English counties and home of Saving Old Seagulls. If you do think of that, it won't give you an...

Essex Flocking of Seagulls!
As John posted a while ago on the main site, the Essex Flocking of Seagulls: Saturday, 15th May 2010 we are the guests of the North Fambridge marina at the slip and pontoon on the north side of the Crouch at North Fambridge. We aim to assemble about Noon, take a trip up river to Battlesbridge, the h...

Rather than faffing around with a couple of sides of ply, go the whole hog with this beauty:

Re: Serial Number Identifier
Here we go; Charles posted this last May: "At any rate it is a circle with the arrow mark and 'CIESS' which stands for 'Chief Inspector Engineering Stores and Supplies' and it indicates it has been accepted into British Military Service. It is always stamped on the skeg, invariably it's a 102&q...

Re: Serial Number Identifier
most probably some sort of reference for the military, who do so love their stores numbers and issue numbers and the like. Charles, I imagine your supposition is correct. I was Army for 14 years and all kit had a military reference number. They almost always started with G, as in G1098 watch, the s...

So what's wrong with another Mirror? You can pick them up fully kitted out off ebay for not too much, the kids could learn to sail or just have fun in her, you can row her and I used my Forty Minus on mine when I was a lad and had a great deal of enjoyment from both the boat and the engine. Still go...
