Re: Series 102 water cooling
This image shows the motor running and when not in gear, I see no water comming from the chromed side outlet, the black rubber pipe was hot, so I assumed it was from hot water, was it from steam? I have since blown the pipe out with an air line, I did think there was a small blockage but not much, i...

Re: Series 102 water cooling
Gents, I used a file picture from SOS and Johns site, it shows what should be right? or is it wrong?

Series 102 water cooling
I have recntly re built a series 102 motor, the water cooling from the cylinder head take off goes via a rubber pipe to the chromed fitting part way down the large stainless steel exhaust pipe. The fitting has three entries or exits, when the motor is running and in a tub of fresh water the rubber p...

Re: Seized 102 power head
Re the gear ratio suitable for this motor? I have just checked the ratio of the 102 engine that I have recently rebuilt, it has an TC 82813 engine number. The ratio is four turns of the motor to one turn of the propeller, would that be correct for the motor with the 102 series WHCH 144 R 8 engine nu...

Re: Series 102 engine with a forty five blade prop
Thanks for the advice! Given that this entire motor was assembled from a spare parts offer I cannot say much about what your asking, excepting it has the Villiers coil and the carb came from John at SOS and was a body repair option on the lower thread, it is the Amal 2 jet version. I will ask the ne...

Re: Seized 102 power head
Your correct about the Wipac set, the top cover is the black plastic version, I have no idea if that was the original?
The top was painted Gold which I assume to be correct?
What gear ratio would it have had?
What year would this model of 102 British Seagull have come out?

Re: Seized 102 power head
Engine number is clearly WHCH 144R8
The power head is very clean, looks like its had an easy life, I wonder why it is part seized?
I think I did ask John from SOS to track the number?

Re: Series 102 engine with a forty five blade prop
Guys, thanks on your replies and advice, I have just checked the five bladed prop and it is marked '100 only' not forty, my mistake. The question remains will this five bladed prop be too small for the 102 motor? Serial number TC 82813 circa 1962/63? I have built this motor up from a steel trunk loa...

Seized 102 power head
A 102 series power head that I was gifted was seized solid, I oiled it and left it on a shelf for a few years, I now find that with a suitable wrench that I can turn it over. I becomes tighter as the piston comes to the top of its stroke, it also whistles ! With a spark plug fitted and lots of oil a...

Re: 102 series gear box oil leak
Guys, thanks, I filled with 500ml Castrol 140 grade oil, then after running the engine I left it standing up off a plank in the bench vice, with a catch dish underneath, the oil had stopped by the following morning. I lost say two tablespoons of oil.

Re: Float level on the Amal 2 jet carb
Yes, it took a few pulls on the starter line, then it was running and staying on idle very nicely.
My thanks for the good advice.

Re: Float level on the Amal 2 jet carb
The main or rich jet was blocked, the banjo filter was clean, I have blown out the blocked jet and reset the float needle to the center of the three possible postions.
