What size of burner are you using? It needs to be quite big, you are looking to get the whole end cherry red, not just local heating. I would not think that they would complicate things by brazing the ends on, when siver soldering is easy and more that adequate for the job. Am still waiting for my m...

I have removed petrol station underground tanks in the past.

We had them degassed before we cut them up.

It is the petrol vapour that creates an explosive mix with air. No vapour no bang.

With my Karcher on full heat (150c) and max detergent, it only takes a few seconds thirty at most.

I can remove your brass tank ends for you.

I can remove your tank ends for you. If anyone wants their brass tanks taken apart, I am prepared to do this. There will be a small charge to cover the cost of gas the whole process for 1 tank should take about 10 mins. You can either pop round to Surrey, or post your tank (include return postage). ...

Dented tanks wanted.

Dented brass fuel tanks. I want to mend some more tanks, and refine the process. I plan to make some press tooling to re-press the ends so am looking for more tanks to work on. If you just want your ends removed, I can do this for you, either bring your tank to surrey or post it to me, including ret...

In a disposable world I get a simple reassurance from simple technology that works. Also I am drawn to design icons, I am sure you would agree that the humble Seagull is a design icon. I also own a 50 year old Land Rover series 1, if that won't start you can soon find out why it won't. The Land Rove...

Does the R mean Refurbished/Recon ? and was it the 9th reconditioned that year. The box has Seagull stickers on it and a delivery date of 9/7/1987. There were ...

There is no technical reason for using lead-free solder, other than that it is easy to use, easy to get hold of and works well. If you were to ask your local plumber he would probably give you enough solder and flux to mend your tank. You never know he might even offer to solder it up for you. The m...

I use Lead-free because that is all I buy now. Most plumbers in the UK (who still use copper) use Lead-free solder, water bylaws say you must for potable water supply. It is readily available and it has a slightly higher melting point than lead solder. (You will be less likely to over heat your join...

Glad you had success. Have put mine back together now (dent free), I used soft solder so that future generations will have less trouble. Did think I should have scratched a date and initials inside as clock repairers do. With soft soldering make sure that you have the parts to be joined as clean as ...

Propane is a readily available gas, you dont need oxy, propane is fine on its own. It can give temps of 1990 degrees C. As long as you have a large enough burner you will produce plenty of heat. If you are trying to use a small plumbing type of torch, you will not get it all hot at the same time. Wi...
