Re: seagull 40+

proceed with caution. You should only use this mixture if you are getting a nice fat spark but you may also get chips in the gears.

Re: Gearbox oil

My first wife was a manager of one of floors in Bewleys in Grafton st. I used to over quite a bit before we were married.
The black stuff in the pubs in Dublin needed 20 minutes rest before you could drink it.
You could stand a spoon up in it.
Prob Ok in a seagull EP 140 (extra potent)

Re: Gearbox oil

I do not believe you want a special high pressure oil in a seagull. You local garage should have ep140 or maybe a framers/crofters supplies.
I have been to Aberdeen and I am almost certain that some of the fish and chips shops are using the right sort of oil

Re: No spark

I had a very poor spark on my Century and tried the socket and drill thing. It does work . Take the plug out though. I sprayed some wd40 down the plug hole . Only use a cordless drill and you will need a steel bar to suit the socket end and turned to take the drill chuck. Wap it up to full speed for...

longshaft shortshaft

I have a crescent 42 (14ft) boat with a 20" transom. My outboard is a century longshaft 23" bracket to cavitation plate. Will it be too deep in the water.

Re: Your Boat & Motor Pictures

20 " transom . The boat has alot of freeboard. max hp is 10 but worked fine with my original century plus which sadly got badly bent when I caught the back end of the boat with a tree. I shouldn't have reversed the trailer with the outboard still on the boat It's a while back before ebay and my...

Re: LEAKING GEARBOX

Another thing. The only way to remove all the grease is to remove the crown wheel and shaft. To do that you must remove the thick brass washer and pin.
Best of luck. It is not rocket science as a seagull is built like a brick toilet.

Re: LEAKING GEARBOX

I had the same problem. The grease was hiding a missing old seal. The gearbox gasket will need replacing also. remove the prop . A thick brass washer on the shaft will need its pin tapping out and behind this should be an oilseal.(mine had vanished) :D SOS has both oilseal and gasket available at ve...

Re: GEAR OIL OR GREASE

Had another look at my gearbox and it does more like grease. Took the cover off and found old grease put in by the original owner - me putting oil in over the months had weakened it a little. Now cleaned up and awaiting new gasket but it may be that the grease was to hide a leak. So my advice is to ...

Re: GEAR OIL OR GREASE

It is likely to be emulsified oil. Mine looked the same after long turm use in seawater and lack of use for a few years. Fill up in normal way with 140 and carry on regardless
