Now thats a nice looking motor, should clean up really well, even the tank is relatively dent free! good find if she runs as well as she looks.

Re: Ebay Sales Psychology?
Thanks Rick / RBT, curiosity satisfied!
Should that be 'Combined air intake, silencer, flame arrestor and right royal pain in the a*se when you want to get at the carb' though? Hope you didn't need to tickle it to start! ( I know fuel was pumped in but .. )

Re: Ebay Sales Psychology?
Sorry, bit late to this thread. Back to that inboard mentioned above, I am intrigued ( No not enough to buy it !!! ) The main site says two designs were produced, one based on the model 90 / 110 the other on the 170. The site pics clearly show details only of the one based on the 90. On the bay ...

Re: Old Outboards and "THE PARTNER......"
HID and I have been together for just over 30 years despite old outboards! but she still hates boats, especially those with 'White flappy things' ( I think her mother may have been frightened by a bedsheet whilst pregnant ) still thats fine by me, I know where I can spend a nice quiet weekend even ...

Re: Official Seagull 170 Spares Book
The motor I had was out of the tray already with the carb off and unfortunately the main parts are now in the caribbean. ( Not actually in the sea tho I hope )
I think the pic is OK tho, the carbie heat shield will show which way up is correct due to the hole for the spark plug? Don't think it ...

Re: 102 still not running
Think it isn't a case of not enough 'suck' but its the needle in the 416 carbie. 25:1 mix is much richer ( in fuel ) so the mixture has to be leaned off in order to run correctly, as you say the 416 is designed to run on 25:1 so has been set to run much leaner hence why you are getting these weak ...

Re: gearbox oil
I take it your previous bad experience trashed the box? my question was if the oil does cling and form a protective layer, what went wrong? even with water pooling in the bottom why wasn't that film sufficient bearing in mind it would be constantly replenished as the gears rotated? and as you say ...

Probably being dumb but I can't see the flaw, give us a clue? Having partially dismantled one of these it looks OK ...... ( Except the piston goes in the barrell
)

Re: gearbox oil
Interesting, and confusing.
Quite understand that the water should be drained off ( I should have laboured that a bit more ) but I am confused by the point that it 'protects steel and bronze even in the presence of water', any ideas how it can acheive such a feat if it just separates? ( or is it ...

Re: gearbox oil
Looking at the data sheet Omala 460 is probably overkill being a high grade industrial gear oil. Interestingly it states it has high water shedding properties allowing water to separate and be drained off, should be OK for Gulls then! It protects steel and bronze even in the presence of water, again ...

Is it my old eyes ( or even the fact I am sober ) but in that cut away pic isn't the water pipe incorrectly fitted?
