Re: Featherweight box to 102

Wow! Nice work there Rob. The graduated exhaust certainly
looks great but I think performance would suffer. Charles
has set me on the right track ( thanks Charles) on this and
many other speed related issues. A goldmine of tuning tips.
All I have to do now is buy more seagulls and start ...

Re: Featherweight box to 102

A Ha! Easy when you know how I suppose.
Thanks rosbullterier. Now I just have to convince "herself" that
I need yet another seagull.

Re: Seized 40 Featherweight...

I had a similar problem with my forty plus. I think the previous owner
ran it on a fuel mix made up for a "modern" outboard, with predictable
results. The piston was seized. Very seized. Someone on this forum came up
with a great solution - take an old champion 8 spark plug and disassemble.
Then ...

102 or efnr more power?

Hi all. Just wondering which power head is more powerfull,
a 102 or an efnr. i.e. from the point of view of racing.

Re: Featherweight box to 102

Normally you'd be right, but my plan is to build an engine
capable of higher speeds. Apparently changing the
gearbox ratio is essential.
Appreciate the reply though.

Featherweight box to 102

H all. Just wondering if any of you racers can tell me the best way
to marry a featherweight box to a 102 top end?
The waterpump housing of the featherweight doesn't
line up exhaust wise and if I use the waterpump housing
of the 102, the screw holes don't line up with the featherweight
box. Do I ...

Weedless prop?

Anyone have any experience with a weedless prop
on a 40+ ? The river I have my boat on is incredibly
weed choked. It's also got some fairly fast flowing
sections so its very difficult to row upstream.
I tried using my engine with standard prop and it
seems to search out weed to wrap around itself ...

Thanks Charles.
I hadn't thought of that. I thought I might just lose some compression.
The pin might be pushed in a bit too far to risk knocking in further.
Looks like I need a new piston!

Piston studs

Wondering how important are the studs on a piston.

By studs I mean the little bits that stop the rings from spinning. One got

damaged on my 102 and now it's pushed in slightly and loose. Would it be

better to remove it altogether or risk further damage trying to repair it.

Any thoughts ...
