Thanks, Vic. I'd forgotten about the adjusting collar. My guess is, however, that I'd probably need to get a more substantial skiff for this to make sense.

As for the anode, I am tempted to bolt a small one on. Perhaps I could grind the paint off of a small section of the skeg and thru-bolt on ...

Protection for a Seagull in the wild

Has any member been successful in attaching a sacrificial anode to their Seagull? I’ve searched the site and read that one or two have bolted a zinc onto the leg or gearcase, but I was under the impression that you also need to attach it to a negative battery terminal (at least in order for it to ...

I’m not sure if you have NAPA auto parts stores in Canada, but that’s where we’re able to get straight SAE 140 gear oil down here in Boston. Something I would have never found without the help of this board...

Fuel Line Info

Could someone let me know the fuel line size for a TSEFPCL? Are there any other considerations when picking up a new one? I would think a like length/diameter from an autoparts or marine store would do the trick, no?

I don’t see any info my service manual and would rather not guess.

Thanks for ...

All right, I am feeling very much the idiot. I run the salt/fuel out of mine in a five gallon bucket all the time. It pumps water fine – a very strong stream in fact. Am I committing some sort of mortal sin?

The clutch is disengaged and working at low-ish rpms, of course.

Larry,

While I cannot claim nearly the expertise of others on this site, I believe your plug should be gapped to .25 (for a Mk4). Not sure that it would result in your engine not starting -- especially as you have spark -- but perhaps it is something to look at.

I also know that every time I've ...

"Gull Plug"

This is a question of little consequence, but perhaps somewhat interesting none the less.

When I bought my engine (used), it came with a “Gullâ€

There are two I know of. One is at the base of the harbor and the other is in an area called little harbor/barnegat. I haven't launched at boat at the former in quite some time, but as I remember both are more than servicable.

Storing the trailer will be your greater challenge. I would think the ...

Thanks for the kind offer, however, the trip from Marblehead is probably a little bit more than my humble Rhodes 18 should bite off.

That said, you should drop in on Frank Valentino in Dennis. I got my 40+ from him and he seemed to have quite a collection and even better stories.

I actually have a plastic tank, but apparently some sort of tiny metallic flecs managed to get in there somewhere along the line. And given the use it gets, the plastic tank is probably a better/more pragmatic fit for me (although admittedly not nearly as dignified looking as brass or even steel ...

Well, I drained and refilled the gearbox and also cleaned the carb jet and bowl (in which there were some tiny metalic flecs -- I can't imagine that is a good thing).

Ran like a charm again. Starting to think it is not the little engine itself, but rather my facination with it that is causing ...

Why could you not use multi-grade oil that is simply on the heavier end of the spectrum? Or, is the issue here that there are additives in the multigrade which disagree with the metals used in the gearbox?

yet another question -- stalling/overfull gearbox

In anyone’s experience, can an overfull gearbox make the engine stall and die when put into gear?

The motor ran beautifully all day yesterday, but seemed to have some issues today. It started consistently on the second pull and ran perfectly in neutral. However, when I closed the throttle to put ...
