Re: Differences between Century and Plus models

Thanks, very informative. What I'm left to understand is the difference in power ratings. Is this due to different carburetion? The seem to have very similar power heads? Are all the Century models essentially re-branded/updates to the same basic design?

Differences between Century and Plus models

Hello, I'm wondering what the differences between the Century and Century+ models are? I see they have different gear ratios and props, and the Plus model has a twin jet carb.. is the carb the only reason for the higher HP rating?

Re: My poor Head!

Again, good information there. I'm learning lots on here! That cotton reel type part on the transom mount has one flat area where it contacts the shaft, so I guess it was kept at one spot. I don't have access to a TIG, but I can certainly try brazing. I will definitely experiment extensively on scra...

Re: My poor Head!

Lots of great information there, thanks guys. I bought this engine (along with a 60s Yamaha) from a man who told me they belonged to his father. Apparently his father had a sail boat that he never sailed, just motored about for fun. I think the Yamaha was his main engine, and the Seagull as backup. ...

Re: Crankshaft/Flywheel vertical play

I will soon be giving it a go on a my 3 tonne boat, I'm expecting plenty of maneuvering power for that. Indeed they are very simple, that's one reason why I like them... they just work, and if they break they are easy to fix :)

Re: My poor Head!

Maybe it was a spanner, although I don't know if there would be clearance for anything much with those fins intact. Is that a known difficulty with this model? If I don't replace the head, I guess I will round the broken bits off and file them smooth, don't know how practical welding or brazing woul...

My poor Head!

I got this nice Little Forty.. all original, untouched and in good order, the tank is almost dent free.. but the head! It looks like somebody has taken a hacksaw a chopped off pieces of cooling fins to get access with a socket. Really? Poor little thing. I've been looking around for a new head, and ...

Re: Crankshaft/Flywheel vertical play

Thanks to all for the good replies and information. I think I may just need to dismantle my other, spare Seagull, and have a good look at how it's constructed.. I do like to know what's going on inside things :) headdownarseup, I will indeed be treating her kindly and keeping things well maintained....

Re: Crankshaft/Flywheel vertical play

Great! Glad to hear that.. I did think I'd found a good one, just wasn't sure on that.. thanks for putting my mind at rest. I will take your good advice and check/service everything before using it in the spring :) Out of curiosity, what is causing the play (you can save me pulling all apart to find...

Crankshaft/Flywheel vertical play

Hello fellow Seagull appreciators :) I've been using the website for years, but this is my first time on the forum. I have recently acquired a Century 100 that has about 5mm of vertical crank (I assume) play, if I grip with both hands around the flywheel and lift - is this somewhat normal, or do I h...
