Re: I bought a Seagull..
Looks like a nice little engine. Are you going to clean it up much, or leave it as a grubby work horse? Honestly, I'm fairly new to Seagulls myself, so don't take what I say too seriously.. but after cleaning out the water jacket in my Century, I would say definitely do it if you are able. The way t...

Re: I bought a Seagull..
Hey Henk, Looks like you got a good deal there :) The block is cast iron, I think the thing to watch out for might be twisting the heads off the bolts if they are seized in, more than stripping threads. The engine will stop when you close the throttle, if you set it up so. Otherwise, you could do wh...

Very nice job you're doing there Tam! Looking beautiful. I've got my FV15425 to do at some point, so great reading. Liked your use of the bench grinder.. may give that a go! What did you use for tight corners on the crankcase? Brass wire end brush?

Re: Century brass tank, straps etc
Keith.P, that's the part I was thinking of, yes. So I guess I should say a long range tank with under-plate thing and straps. That's the one I like the look of best
PS. that box in the background looks like a very tempting place to have a rummage!

Century brass tank, straps etc
Looking for a brass tank to replace the steel one on my '76 Silver Century. I think I will need the straps, and plate that goes under the tank also? Going to use this as an opportunity to have a go at removing dents and restoring a tank, so a scruffy dented (but potentially fixable) one is what I'm ...

Re: Fitting exhuast tube to Century
That's interesting regarding the denser metal being quieter. Will have to experiment sometime. On closer inspection of the brass tube that came with the engine - it's chrome plated brass. Would that have come with a Century 100 originally? Or still sounding like a 102? And under some crud I may disc...

Re: Fitting exhuast tube to Century
No rubber O ring on the exhaust outlet. It's definitely a Century 100 otherwise, I guess the exhaust tube was replaced at some point. I was quite pleased to discover it was brass, it's coated in multiple layers of silver paint, so I had no idea. It's in nice un-dented condition too - will hang on to...

Re: Fitting exhuast tube to Century
Afraid not, parts are abroad my boat, and I am currently not. I spent Saturday afternoon having a relaxed tinker in the sun :) Things I did check for were buildup inside the exhaust tube, and around the head fitting. Pretty clear. The exhaust that was on there originally is brass and has (I think) f...

Fitting exhuast tube to Century
Hello, I have an exhaust tube (and complete leg etc) from Silver Century that I am fitting to a Century 100, because I want the clutch and extra long shaft. I am finding the exhaust tube is reluctant to fit onto the head - should I carefully persuade it with a mallet, or should I cut out slits, like...

Yea, lots of them lying around the banks, apparently abandoned.. abandoned until somebody sees me using it! Will get in touch if no luck.. Duck Bay, go past there often enough. Cheers.

Hard tender dinghy row boat wanted in Scotland
Hello, by any chance does someone have an old fiberglass or wooden tender/row boat etc? Just need something cheap/old/probably leaky which isn't worth stealing, that I can chain to a tree near my mooring. Would be using it on Loch Lomond, so if you have something suitably cheap that you are able to ...

Re: Differences between Century and Plus models
headdownarseup, thanks for all that information, very interesting, particularly regarding the trade description act. I wonder what's a better way of doing things? The old fashioned "that should do it" or the modern "precisely that, according to the computer model".. I think the a...

Re: Differences between Century and Plus models
cobbadog, as far as my understanding goes (and I do not claim to be an expert, correct me if I'm wrong!), The gear ratio does not effect the HP rating, same with the prop. The power going into the gearbox is converted to produce the desired rotational speed/torque, the pitch of the prop does the sam...
