Re: SeaBee's first outing
Eyes of a hawk, Keith. It actually vibrated closed en route which I noticed as I took this photo. Made sure I gave it a good twist to the stop open after that.
Thanks, we got a few people ask us about the motor, including one young fella who said he used to have a seagull.

SeaBee's first outing
I'm happy to report "Beattie" had her first outing this weekend and all went without a hitch. We motored five miles up river, moored up at a pub for a bite to eat then five miles back. Did a little GPS speed check and we maxed out at 5.2mph. Now I know she's reliable we'll have a few more ...

Re: SeaBee 3 questions / manual required
Mine is at the very bottom, above the gearbox. IMG_20150827_004230.jpg From this very rough schematic I've thrown together, is this correct that the exhaust gases flow into the impeller housing, then out via the two small holes on the opposite side of the prop on the gearbox? I can't see a way that ...

Hi Mikul,
If that's you in your avatar, what years from/to did you serve on the Glamorgan? My brother served on her during the Falklands.

Re: SeaBee 3 questions / manual required
No worries Keith. Am I correct in thinking the exhaust runs in a tube adjacent to the drive shaft? Which then exits directly into the impeller housing? I'm trying to get my head round the flow of water from that too, the two small holes at the rear of the leg must be the inlet and exhaust? I'd have ...

Re: SeaBee 3 questions / manual required
Completed a strip, clean and inspection of the lower unit now, happily the pinion, bevel and bushes look like new! The old grease had a "marmite" like colour and consistency. The still present sticker on the cowl states Castrolease underwater grease for the gearbox. As much reading as I've...

Re: Nah then duck...
 I didn't mean it like that, more if you needed a hand with owt. Did you find out how much the permit was for the Derbyshire Council stretch? It's different to the normal BW pricing so never found out as you have to get it from Tapton Lock visitor centre. My SeaBee will be getting it's prop wet...

Re: Nah then duck...
Hello mate, I'm nearer the bit the canal vanishes... but use the towpath now and again for bike rides along the TPT into Rother Valley. I did look at using Rother but they only allow engine testing early morning, and it's £25 for the hour  I've got an inflatable so chuck in at Gunthorpe and p...

Re: Nah then duck...
Give me a wave when you do Pricey... My neck of the woods that  Are you going to portage the boat round the locks or use them? My maiden voyage was going to be that stretch till I counted how many locks to Staveley! I ended up opting for the Trent instead, there's a good few miles of clear ...

Re: SeaBee 3 questions / manual required
Yesterday I stripped, cleaned and lubed the recoil which was sticking, oiled the throttle cable and greased the throttle linkage. All back together and run in a wheelie bin of water. Starts and runs absolutely spot on, did a plug chop after half an hour's running and it's a lovely biscuit brown as i...

Re: SeaBee 3 questions / manual required
Hi Keith, I'd already stripped and cleaned the carb. I'm amazed how little wear it shows, the slide and needle look brand new. Anyway, after a good dose of 20:1 using fully synthetic oil I used to use in my GasGas race bike and a bit of cranking with the drill on the flywheel nut she lives! It revs ...

Well bu**er me, I have a spark!
Seems it wanted the points cleaning and gapping a fourth time, then all of a sudden hey presto.
