Re: help : stuck

Though the old girl is a bit smokey now. Could that have something to do with screwing with the needle adjust screw? Where should that be anyway? And anyone know of a decent field service to fix a leaking fuel tap for a day or two?

help : stuck

Hey all,

After much use, with almost no problems (exhaust shroud coming loose, losing fuel tank cap overboard, our seagull won't start! We're stick out on the water, do have sails and oars, but we've got a big crossing to make and would really like to have the old girl working. I thought some gunk ...

Thanks for suggestions! I was able to borrow one from Dave at Alder Bay Boat Company.

Cheers.

The Great Gas Cap Search

Hey All,

I am seeking a tank cap in Surrey, B.C. Canada.

Last week we were tripping around, using our 60's vintage silver century heavily to push our eighteen foot double ender around the Gulf Islands.
The tank ran empty. I spun off the cap and it fell to the bottom of the sea. Evidently the ...

Cannot find SAE 140 for the life of me.

So, I've looked around and called around and shlepped around and I still can't find any 140 wt oil in or near Vancouver.
On advice I called around farm machinery and equipment suppliers, but so far, no luck.

Any more help?

Ed.

Re: Help? Procedure for changing gear oil in '65 century 100

Is this not normal? I've heard great things about seagulls and seen them hanging around in sheds and garages, but never used one.
With a clean carb and clear coolant channels, what can go wrong?

Re: Help? Procedure for changing gear oil in '65 century 100

Well we took the thing out with the less-than-ideal gear oil. It ran quite well. I hope I didn't cause any excessive wear. Two hours there, two hours back. No problems at all.

Re: Help? Procedure for changing gear oil in '65 century 100

I've made a few calls and am having trouble finding EP or SAE 140.
They keep telling me, "Oh, that old motor, you can just put anything in there" I'm not buying it. I'll keep searching.

Re: Help? Procedure for changing gear oil in '65 century 100

Thanks again!

I just found some good information on the Seagull parts website too. Very useful. I'll track down some 140.

The Weldability of a Seagull?

IMG_3498.JPG

So, I just picked up this great motor, but the tiller is snapped off. You can almost discern from the photo that it's a clean break.
In the great experience of the forum, is this a weldable repair? Or does it need to be replaced? I've got the throttle zip-tied to
the mounting bracket ...

Thanks for the tips. And here's a photo. I'll get some action shots later today, when she plunges into the mighty fraser river.

Previous to posting I read most of the FAQ. They really helped me in getting the machine running. I saw in the FAQs that 140 or EP 90 gear oil should be ...

Re: Help? Procedure for changing gear oil in '65 century 100

So, I removed the plastic plug, drained the oil, though there was very little in there. And tipped the motor plug side up, filled it back up with SAE 85 140, and considered the job done. But... The oil seems to be leaking out of the horizontal slots above the gear case... Is this gear oil? Do I need ...

Help? Procedure for changing gear oil in '65 century 100

Hi All,

My first post here. I just picked up an old century 100 that hadn't been run in 15-20 years. I cleaned the tank and the carb, and second pull, rat a tat tat tacka tacka tacka...! The water way was blocked, so a little overnight lime remover and now it flows nicely.

So I now want to change ...
