Re: stop motor
Thanks Jon, apologies - it's an Amal ... I will dismantle all and clean and recheck. I have noticed that if anything - the cable outer might be a tad short , but not much... the adjustment on the mixing chamber cap maxes out and the outer cable tends to sit high, rather than too firm..

stop motor
4.5 HP Silver Century has been rejuvenated and running fantastic since. Always creates a discussion topic at the boatramp ... small issue is - that it starts SO easily .. that she doesn't want to stop ! ! ! .. when idling into the ramp (or beach) and I close the throttle , the motor will just be at ...

Re: Higher throttle setting
I should have updated my previous posts about my uneven running in a tank ...answers and replies to my earlier posts were exactly correct thanks to all. Yes - cavitating in a tank amongst other things was the problem. Now that I have the motor on the boat , all is well - apart from the issue ...

Re: Higher throttle setting
Do you mean remove / unscrew the choke hood ? Usually constant running between 3/4 and full throttle has never been a problem ... always purred along nicely ..

Higher throttle setting
Silver Century Gull with the twin-jet Amal carb. Everything is fine after full clean from tank to jets. The jets are positioned correctly (short closer to block intake as per Amal diagram). Jets cleaned again and filters checked. Motor starts OK and runs great but one small tweak required I think ...

Re: Seagull Accessory Ad
I have just launched a 14ft runabout (Sea Nymph hull design) and after considerable help and input from sources including here - am incredibly pleased and impressed with the way my silver century pushes it along. We actually had a wake!! and I would approximate our speed at around 6+ knots ? The ...

uneven running in a tank
Has anyone got some more info on if running in a test tank that may be a bit small (wheeliebin) can cause the motor (4.5 hp non clutch silver C) to run unevenly especially at wider throttle ? carb clean and fine ... fuel is fresh .. havent tested it yet on the water but curious if this is a common ...

Re: Long Throttle Cable
Thanks.. So maybe go with a thinner guage inner stainless wire in a standard outer covering ? and lube it well ? .. I will try the standard guage inner first and see how it goes. I read that one of the race chaps said he used a bicycle brake lever for a throttle lever (for safety) - good idea. Might ...

Re: Long Throttle Cable
Great .. thanks for the tips .. found the topic line "102 flies again" and some good stuff. Looks like the standard bicycle Bowden cable option is the best way to go - if I can get the bike shop to sell in lengths. I hear they can close ranks on that depending where you go. The curtain rod wire ...

Long Throttle Cable
Now here is something that has probably been asked before .. I wish to use my trusty 4.5HP silver century as an auxiliary on a small runabout of length 13 feet - but I need the ability to control the throttle from up front. This would mean a cable of around 3 meters. I have seen "extra" long cables ...

Re: SAE90 OK ?
Thanks - found the Penrite T140 after a mission. Even though I had already seen the Penrite "multigrades" 80-140 and other blends, it appears that all New Zealand retail outlets do not actively stock pure T140 it as it's a slow-mover - and now is in short supply. When you add the "I'll get-it-in ...

SAE90 OK ?
A definitive and final answer requested please. SAE 140 (non-additive or mutigraded) seems to be a scare commodity these days here in NZ !. Is SAE 90 OK for the gearbox ?? Model and serial = WS112 MM4

Re: uneven running at med-high throttle
Thanks Gents, feedback - Stripped carb - filters dirty , One jet blocked .... havent run it yet but am confident she will go fine. By the way another win, I found the original Jet tool / Key from 1975 !! and a spare prop spring in my shed. It looks as though I may be searching for a fuel tank cap ...
