Re: Villiers Token

I left the Midlands a long time ago, but did go into the old Sunbeam works in Upper Villiers street when it belonged to Fafnir Bearings, and into Villiers when, I believe, they were owned by the Aluminium Bronze company. there were another couple of ex-Sunbeam sites close by, one very near the city ...

Re: Villiers Token

Re the token image, Sunbeam apparently made a unique two-speed chainwheel, which needs a quiet interruption-free afternoon for restorer to reassemble apparently - is this the image illustrated?

Re: Villiers Token

Some good information about the links between Marston, Sunbeam & Villiers if you Google 'Villiers Engineering, Wolverhampton' - Charles Marston obviously family, but also a Frank Farrar looms large in the story. The Sunbeam factory still exists in Upper Villiers Street - less sure about the Vill...

Re: Amal Throttle Control - Tiller Clamp Screws.

Good info Chris - I used to get mine from Custom Fasteners in Newton, Powys (they have a website) who supply stainless and plated bolts etc., but was an either/or across the range, meaning some sizes of item were in stainless and others in chrome. I used to put some lube - I favour copper grease on ...

Re: OP463 on ebay

We also seem to have the assumption that some hot-to-trot punter on eBay will automatically refer to the SOS website for the wisdom of the years, but there is no guarantee. One might hope so, but who knows?

Re: OP463 on ebay

Quite right Oyster - I prefer to think that the people on the selling side are acting in all innocence (?), but potential buyers (at high value) should be aware that all is not as it seems.

Re: Stationery engine

HI Tam - dug out my stuart manual for the P5, which is what I imagined we were talking about (actually a parts list), which is nothing like the photos - it looks if anything a bit more like the P3 model, but little resemblance there really, other than magneto drive plate cover, so I don't know what ...

Re: OP463 on ebay

A fair bit of 102 on this motor methinks - propellor, petrol tank, petrol cap, intake shroud (my SD's had the brass 'trumpet') etc? Crankcase to leg studs look a bit dodgy - too long with no shallow dome on ends (cut down bolts?)

Re: Stationery engine

I think to only source for Stuart Turner engines will be Ebay and the like - there used to be a good dealer until a few years ago (Fairways Marine) in Essex, who could supply anything and had the works records to be able to date motors for a small fee- it was a husband / wife team who had tried to s...

Re: Silver Century not starting

I wouldn't suspect the transfer port - check that both carb jets are clear, either by taking the carb. off to check (look through), or with the carb in situ, take the float bowl and the throttle cap off and shine a torch from the underside to view through the jets. Also check the float chamber banjo...

Re: Gear oil and two stroke

Sarcasm misplaced. For those that do know, the smaller boxes hold a fraction of that oil that, for example, a Forty Plus will take, and consequently the oil will 'contaminate' very quickly with water ingress. The oil does not leak or escape so much - rather, water enters the 'box and affects the oil...

Re: Removal of a seized piston ring from the piston

I should have added that Oxalic will soften carbon deposits provided that there is not too much oil bound up in them -greatest use of oxalic around the world is in bleaching cotton fabrics.
