Re: Fuel level
It can be removed by sliding it out with needle nose pliers. It will just barely clear the rim. I would not try to spread clips.

Re: Fuel level
I put my Seagull on my inflatable about a week after my last post. It started on third pull and my wife and I toured the harbor, a journey of three or four miles. It ran flawlessly for 35 or 40 minutes. John, I am curious to know if the vent in any of the Bing carbs you have are blocked. It's not ...

Re: Fuel level
Additionally, the corroded orifice is inside the opening next to the float about 3/4". Did you look deep enough?

Re: Fuel level
It works perfectly in my basement. I will run it on my dingy this weekend. I have every confidence it will run fine. I will give you a report when I return.

Re: Fuel level
I cut a slot in an old float bowl so that I could observe the float, put a wine glass over top of the bowl and allowed the fuel to run. The float did not move. With the vent blocked the air trapped in the very top of the float chamber would not allow the float to rise high to shut the fuel off. Fuel ...

Re: Fuel level
Today I discovered the problem with the eratic fuel level in my Bing carb. The issue was not dirt, worn float valve, bad float valve seat, float rubbing against the inside of the float bowl, bad float pin or any of these issues. There is a vent that purges air from the bowl when fuel enters. This ...

Re: Fuel level
I I don't think dirt is the problem. I've had that carb apart dozens of times in the last month. I guess I could buy a new carb, but now I'm on a quest to find out what the heck is wrong with this one.

Re: Fuel level
John,
I just installed a new float valve and a new float pin. Did you see the photo I sent after the installation?

Re: Fuel level
John,
The engine that I bought did not have the entake cover, but I was able to find one at an antique marine shop. I know they are hard to find. I will tie the thing on some how I definately don't want to loose it. Do you sell the float for the Bing carb. Do you think a new float would fix my ...

Re: Fuel level
I ordered a new float pin and a new float valve needle. It took 2 weeks to get them from England. I installed the parts and mounted the engine on my inflatable. It started on the first pull, ran about 200 yards and quit with fuel streaming out of the carburettor throat. Just as I suspected the float ...

Re: Fuel level
I have ordered from two British outfits. www.britishseagull.co.uk and www.seagullspares.co.uk. They have both been great. I haven't heard of the company you listed, but I will check them out. Regarding the Garlic Festival I've been there many times over the last 10 or 15 years. Hopefully this year I ...

Re: Fuel level
This carb is a 1977. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to slide out the float pin as per Don Meyer's book. At one point I removed the float bowl, held a small glass where the float bowl would be and allowed the glass to fill, fuel stopped running at about 1/8" below the carburettor base where the ...

Re: Fuel level
Still haviing problems with the fuel level. The fuel float valve looks good to me, it is not perfect, but I would think it should stop the fuel flow. In any event I have ordered a new one. Is there a way to dress the valve seat? If the new valve doesn't work I guess that would be the next item to ...

Re: Fuel level
The float valve and valve seat are good. I have bent, ever so slighty, the brass hinge that attaches the float to the carburettor and have lowered the fuel level in the bowl to where it no longer runs out of the carburettor throat. I just don't know what the proper level should be. I have totally ...
