Re: Low speed trolling

This is how I troll. Sailing or rowing .

Seagull is for emergency.

I troll for Cornetfish and Barracuda.

Float needle

My Forty featherweight with Villiers carb has a leaky float needle.
Examining the needle with a magnifying glass shows a ring into the cone, probably caused by vibrations.
I have a model lathe on board, so could reshape the cone.
What is the best way to make the float needle fit leak free ?

Re: Removing rust from water jacket

I row or sail our dingy, with a lot of wind and two persons a small outboard is better. Had a second hand Johnson 2hp for years, did not really like it. If the outboard is used it has to be 100% reliable, otherwise one could end up on the Egyptian coast. Furthermore the Johnson had a way of paying ...

Re: Auxiliary engine

Today I met Demis. Greek, 74 year old, long time sailor.
He saw my Fetherweight and started telling story's. Many, many years ago, they went spear fishing. Driving to a new hunting ground, borrowed some wooden boat, put the Seagull on and went fishing for the weekend.
On top of the flywheel some ...

Seconds after I made this picture ( This afternoon ) I rowed over and offered help. Three man and a hydraulic gangway turned it upright again.
I assume there are no 50 Horsepower Seagulls ?

Re: Fuel Tap O Rings

I agree that buying the correct parts is easier. The main reason to buy a Seagull was that almost everything is repairable.
Had a Johnson 2hp, very old, had to repair time after time. Made a water pump housing from three sheets of plexiglas glued together. Made even a seal in it, taken from a ...

Re: Fuel Tap O Rings

Repairing my Fetherweight I used one of the modern synthetic corks. That stuff is perfectly gas resistant.
I do have the advantage to have a Model makers lathe on board.
Could not keep my mouth shut so some Turkish farmers came over and asked me to make gas injection starting aids for there ...

Auxiliary engine

Heard a story of some older guy who had mounted a Seagull ( tailless ) on a Simpson Laurence Seatiger manual anchor winch to lift up the chain and anchor.
Have not seen it myself.
Other funny uses ?

Not seen a historic ship, ( Except for mine )
Have anchored just in front of the "Naval base " Only activity in one week : every morning and evening at 8 o´clock they play a tape with some trumpet music.

Have seen some alcohol and that was it. Flower power age i suppose?

At five o´clock in the afternoon some medical emergency. A specific ...

Re: repairing Ht lead

This is the green stuff, sepperates from gas after less than a minute.
Then looks like a alien life form, wandering true the engine, glueing needles and floats.
How long must two stroke oil stay into the gas after stirring ?
Dus a Seagull run on Ouzo ?

Made new ht lead. Magic, there is the spark.
Then spend 2 h cleaning the gum out of the fuel system. Test tomorrow.

Next question : The tuktuk hangs on the guard rail on the transom of the boat. Low free board boat, no problem lifting it from rail onto the dingy.
Gearbox drips from time to time a ...
