All now sorted - set points, cleaned plug and started second pull. Manual would be helpful, though!

Oh - further to this. When measured with a multimeter, there is no connection (infinate resistance) between the spark plug lead and the cylinder head.

Do you need to play with the position of the cylinder when trying this test?

Got a 40 Flyweight (F1098 CCS stamped on engine) which hasn't been started for a few years. We have no spark, and are unsure as to how to adjust the points.
