Re: Leaking water out of top of head gasket

I thought I had it all sorted out but after fifteen minutes of good strong running the seagull acted up again. I lost power, steam and had less water exiting out the block. Not again! After rowing back to the dock and towing it home I pulled the head off again. The new gasket did not show any signs ...

Re: Leaking water out of top of head gasket

The water and steam is no longer exiting out around the head gasket. I pulled the head, scraped an amazing amount of crud out from the cooling passages. I installed a new head gasket, sprayed the copper sealant all over it, torqued it down and…. It’s much better now. Along with the shortening of the ...

Re: cooling flow

I will second the opinion that the waterways are all plugged up. The exact same thing happened to my silver century. After a great deal of mining for impacted rust and crud, she cools well and no longer steams up, inhibiting the water flow.
That rowing between cool downs gets old fast, or should I ...

Re: Would seagull engines benefit from a sacrificial anode ?

If and only if you left the poor engine sitting in the water. An anode would lose its electrons to the current in the water over a period of time, rather than the slightly more noble alloy. Just having a zinc attached wil not be of benifit during normal storage. Of course if you are making ocean ...

Re: Silver Century chop?

Note the shift rod of a Silver Century Plus has a dog leg bend as shown. You will need to cut the top of the rod and bend it rather than cut the bottom and rethread. Those bends need to stay where they were put originally to clear the exhaust tube.

Re: Silver Century chop?

I too am in the process of chopping my Silver Century. I am shortening it a total of 7 inches, the drive tube is at a machine shop awaiting the step to be cut. As far as the clutch rod goes, I am forgoing the cutting of threads and will shorten the other end. I do not have the Witworth dies to cut ...

Re: Leaking water out of top of head gasket

For the noise problem
I plugged up the two holes and sure enough, it's a bit quieter. I am thinking there might be some more additional options however. I am considering adding an expansion chamber from a 100 cc go cart, I am thinking that one tube inside of the original might quite things down even ...

Re: Leaking water out of top of head gasket

I’m kind of hijacking my own thread, I hope that’ ok with you guys… I put the surf dory in the water on Thursday. A little spot called Morro Bay, CA. Its claim to fame is a large roundish volcanic rock at the entrance of the bay. The fog had rolled in so it was barely visible. Once in the water I ...

Life guards used to use surf dorys for beach rescues, now it's more of a sport. The ones in the video may be slightly smaller than my 20 footer. These also have a deck above the water line and scupper holes for quick drainage.

When I come to shallow ...

I don't know if it's too deep or not. I call always drill more holes to adjust.

Re: Leaking water out of top of head gasket

After a bit more maintenance, such as blowing compressed air back thru the water spit outlet in the engine block, the problem seems to have resolved itself. No more water and steam is coming out of the head gasket and the flow of water out the block is at a brisk flow, cooling the engine to a much ...

Leaking water out of top of head gasket

After of 25 years of storage I blew the cobwebs off my Silver Century Plus. I refilled the fluids and it started up with the second pull. The water flow out the bottom of the block slowed a bit as she reached operating temp. I then noticed a small drip of water/steam coming out of the head gasket ...
