Thanks everyone!
Well done on getting it assembled and running in such a short time. Nice to see the younger generation taking charge of classic engines.

Re: SD 102

Good buy, you will enjoy owning a nice original SD 8) There is also another forum member on Skye, who has a SD, Skyetoyman. He lives at Glendale and used to run the Skye Toy Museum. Not heard from him on here for a long time. Skyetoyman is still alive but winding down a little. Now retired and gone...

Re: coolie hat cover

My grandfather would have been able to answer the usage of seagull outboards during the war. Sadly long since gone but was a pontoon bridge builder in Germany and later a quartermaster in charge of stores. RSM warrent officer no1 - the highest rank possible for a non commisioned officer. ww2_grandad...

Re: szuwarek 364

Very good sea keeping qualities. Loads of freeboard. Doesn't suffer from slap as do many flatter or triple hulls. I don't go out when the weather is rough but I have been caught out a few times and this is a good boat in rough seas.

Re: szuwarek 364

It is a semi displacement hull and top speed is governed by the waterline length unless you can get it to plane. a small seagull pushed my 14ft very happily and a 6hp suzuki didn't make it go much faster.
Very similar to yours but 150kg.

Re: Twist Grip Throttle

I have to say I am not a fan of non seagull twist grip throttles. They do not stay open ie take your hand away and the throttle will close. A good feature on motorcycles but not outboards. Makes it very difficult to start the engine.

Re: 79 Forty plus, clutch, long shaft

It's not a lever - It is just the non original pin that secures the engine to the mounting bracket. It should be shortened and have a small hole drilled at the other end to take a spring clip. The corroded pipe is the exhaust pipe. They are easily obtainable but make sure you get the correct length.

Re: Nah then duck...

Very handy a trailer with a launching trolley. Only snag with a direct drive is that when you start it ----- it goes. I have seen some exciting moments and been part of them.
Nice boat but it looks more suitable for a short shaft seagull. Just read the engine number --- it has a clutch.

Re: First Trip!!!

Perhaps I should have said Macho. I do get a bit anal when it comes to lifejackets and the senseless loss of life. I was even more annoyed that the competition was supposedly organized by our community council . Sadly this corner of Skye has not improved in the last 25 years. Yes more vistors are ha...

Re: First Trip!!!

Local "organized"sea fishing competion last week end . 5 boats went out .Only one with all wearing lifejackets (mine) of the others - a total of 12 people only one (a child) had a lifejacket. It's a Scottish thing. Plus no one had scales to weigh the catch. Luckily I had my small , cheap ,...
