Hi Guys
The long and short of it all, I changed the barrel and find the flywheel tight to turn, so it's back to basics.
I'll check the forum to get info about gapping the new rings and from their I'll do a rebuild and clean, again. Thanks for the input.
Gerard

Re: Too much compression
When I say too much compression, I'm comparing it to that of an FPC which I can turn quite easily with my hand, this one is a bit stiffer.
As for doing anything with the rings, all I did was fit them, nothing else.
With the crank split from the head it turns easily.

Re: Too much compression
Hi Keith
Not the news I hoped for but not too drastic. I do have another engine which I think is bits and pieces as there's no number on it and things don't seem to match up right. I'll use that for spares. Thanks for the help.

Re: Too much compression
Hi guys
The words "sounds like something's going to seize" got me going. First, I hadn't put any oil in the gearbox, tut, tut, however this wasn't the problem. I've now removed the leg and stripped off the cylinder head. Here's my findings. The oil in the bore felt very gritty. There are a couple ...

Re: Hi Everyone
I agree Hugz, but I don't know the exact nature of what was said or done but as John says, simple registration rules are in place and we must run with them for the good of the site. It's a damn shame to be honest, this is a great site, I know I've learned loads from the experienced guys. God, for me ...

Re: Throttle Cable
Amalgam sounds good. It's harder and a wee bit cheaper than gold.

Throttle Cable
Can anyone tell me how I'd go about getting an extended throttle cable suitable for a 40+ if I was trying to fit my Seagull to a steering system?

Re: Too much compression
Hi, with the plug out there's still a fair bit of resistance. Could the driveshaft be too far down onto the gearbox housing.

Re: Too much compression
Thanks Keith, sounds like you hit it on the head, getting older. You're spot on, I don't have a compression tester but will try it without the plug and get back to you guys.

Too much compression
Hi Guys
Having been really busy at work this year I've had very little time to play with my Seagulls, so it was a delight to get a wee break today and doodle about.
My FPC which has only had a minor clean started after a few pulls, to my delight as I know the carb will need a good clean. My second ...
