Help!....worn gears

Hi folks-long time since I logged on since last summer - hope you all had a good winter, now thoughts are turning to spring, can anyone tell me how I can replace worn gears on a 40+. When I opened the gearbox, it was full of thick yellow grease (horror!) and obviously had not lubricated the gears ...

Re: gearbox horror

These Seagulls seem to leak whichever way they are tilted, from any joint, hole or pipe on any part of the machine. This charming aspect of Seagull ownership has very much failed to impress my other half! - How much is leaking out - drops, trickle or flood?

thanks for this Vic, I have found a metal washer where the rubber oil seal (7) washer should be - a very useful diagram! I am begining to suspect my whole 40+ is a bit of a frankensteins monster, made up of old washing machines, cars etc etc

gearbox horror

Hi folks - I just looked in the gearbox of my 40+ - a bit of a horror story inside, thick yellow grease which I have cleaned out, but have discoverd that the bronze bush next to the prop is very worn, hence the gears wouldnt mesh properly, I have turned the bush around to give the correct clearance ...

FP

thanks for this advice - I have done all of this, with a great result, FP now giving a nice frothy dustbin full on command! I had noticed a little bit of bubble blowing from the crankcase, but will see how it runs on the water....

Thanks again for this great forum!

FP running

Hi guys - first of all, many thanks for all your excellent advice so far, My FP is back in running order, clear cooling stream, lovely start etc. only problem is that it will only run with the carb intake open - opening and closing the throttle makes no difference to running, even though the needle ...

The big screw at the bottom

Calling all engineers - what is the best way of getting the big screw between the exhaust and the drive shaft (the one that holds the gearbox on) out ?- I cant seem to find any way of getting any purchase on it - it seems pretty well stuck. thanks for your help-my knuckles await skinning!

lots of noise, no thrust

Hi folks - can you help me with a little (or Big Prob) - my 40 plus was working well when all of a sudden it went into big revs, poured black water out of the previously clean cooling stream and promptly stalled. I shut down all systems and then a few minutes later decided to give it a start in the ...
