Not sure if it’s been mentioned previously however the Serial Number of this particular Seasprite (A963) and CI’s (A924) indicates they are only 39 apart. The date code on both flywheels is 56, so it’s reasonable to expect that both were built in the same year and supplied by a Melbourne distributor for AW Pryor.

Anyway, first image simply shows the single wrap around decal. Earlier units comprised a three piece decal set ie as mentioned earlier in this thread.

Image

Marking edges here to facilitate measurement and reproduction. After the outlines are drawn, I write the all measurements on the decal (including font size etc) and take more photos for my records.

Image

Once that’s out of the way, the tank is prepared for paint. You will note from the previous pics, this one had quite a large amount of surface rust and therefore needed additional prep time. On the plus side however, there were only a couple of minor dings and as these would be covered by the decal (once reproduced) I felt there was very little to repair them.

Image

Tank painted and refitted temporarily. Based on the way it lines up, I expect there should be some spacers (possibly rubber) between it and mountings on the crank case so some additional research or input from other Seasprite owners is needed here. Carb was also tempiorarily fitted and removed ie still requiring repair to the mounting flange and painting before final assembly.

OK, as for and the ‘missing’ words in the starting and lubrication instructions, this is where I’m at so far. Only a few missing words (blue x's below) in the lubrication instructions now need sorting to complete. Any contributions (even guesses) would be greatly appreciated.

Operating Instructions – Now complete and accurate

TO START YOUR MOTOR
1. Open the vent in filler cap.
2. Unscrew petrol cap.
3. Flood carburettor by depressing needle.
4. Close choke.
5. Open engine control to half throttle
6. Wrap cord around starter plate, and pull quickly and evenly.
7. After motor has started, never fail to open choke.
8. Regulate power setting as required.
TO STOP MOTOR
Close fuel tap and move throttle to closed positon.
It is essential to wash out the cylinder barrel in fresh water
if this motor has been operated in salt water.

Lubrication Instructions - Still a few missing words highlighted by the blue x's below

LUBRICATION – ENGINE
It is essential that the correct grade of oil and also the
correct oil/fuel mixture be used for this engine.
Use 1 pint of WAKEFIELD CASTROL XXL to 1 gallon of
petrol for the first hour and then ¾ pint of
WAKEFIELD CASTROL XXL to 1 gallon of petrol. For
continuous xxxxxxxxxx or trolling, use xxxxx pint of WAKEFIELD
CASTROL XXL xxxxxxxxxx to 1 gallon of petrol.

LUBRICATUION - UNDERWATER GEARS
Lubricate underwater gears every 10 hours with WAKEFIELD
CASTROLGREASE UW

Look forward to your input.

S

How about this......

For the ONE piece decal.

LUBRICATION – ENGINE
It is essential that the correct grade of oil and also the
correct oil/fuel mixture be used for this engine.
Use 1 pint of WAKEFIELD CASTROL "XXL" to 1 gallon of
petrol for the first 15 hours and thereafter ¾ pint of
WAKEFIELD CASTROL "XXL" to 1 gallon of petrol. For
continuous slow running or trailing, use 1/2 pint of WAKEFIELD
CASTROL "XXL" to 1 gallon of petrol.

Note the word "Trailing"
Note "15 Hours,"
Note "XXL"

Perfect!

I had picked slow running and 1/2 pint, but failed to read trailing correctly. Thank you.

I note also that the UW is in quotation marks which I could not pick up from mine also. So thanks on that also.

Now due to my curiosity I have to ask and hope not to offend in the pricess, B has gone from B to BnC. Do we take it that there is a new special someone in your life? If so, congratulations to you both.

BnC stands for Bruce and Cello.

Cello is "The Ships Cat" that I mention now and again.

BnC sign off has been standard for many years when corresponding with my Daughter Laura, (Laura is a crazy cat lady...4 pussycats), and others having a cat. Doug Penn is DnM....Molly

Force of habit so may as well continue aye.

No significant other on the horizon yet.

I think my safety is living in and around plus with my collection of...."STUFF".

Thank you for asking S and regards to the long suffering D

I went to BPs place picked up all of my stuff from the meet today. Boyd showed me something interesting about the power- head he is sending from SG.

There is a small plate rivitted on to the tiller stay/bracket.......I have to check mine when I get back from a break away in the south west (Dueling Banjos).

Also the tank original colour is not blue. Mine is faded so looking silver. Could be your colour as makes sense.

That is all for now.

Cheers and Beers and in anticipation I am sure S

Enjoy your break B.

Have seen very light metallic blue on late AMECO and very early AW Pryor units previously, in fact 3 so far.

If I remember correctly the thread I did for you some time ago entitled "early Seasprite inspiration for Collector Inspector" comprises an example. That one was blinged however the light blue tank complete with yellow leaching and decal was simply cleaned up and clear coated. A nice touch in my opinion.

BnC & S

I've unfortunately not been able to get it to a pack and send because of back to school stuff, but will be at one within 2 weeks max.

Sorry for the delay S

No stress Boyd, and no need for an apology either. You're doing me a favour after all.

Urgency diminished when I learned SG had run an angle grinder through the lower crank section

Just a display unit now, so no pressure aye.

Cheers.

Seasprite outboards were fitted with a removable cast aluminium spark plug cover. These had to be removed during servicing or replacement of the spark plug and in most case, they were not refitted and ultimately lost. As a result, there are very very few Seasprite outboards that still retain this original part. Restored units are generally incomplete.

Thankfully, there are 1 or 2 still out there. This has made it possible to create a mold and cast a number of spares, one of which will be fitted to the topic of this thread. Thank you B 8)

Six have been so far accounted for, leaving 4. If you have a Seasprite in need of a cover, don't hesitate to send me a pm.

Those following this thread will recall that the flange on the carburetter had been damaged by the previous owner during a failed attempt to remove a siezed fixing screw. As suggested by another forum member, I gave JB WELD a go and can now progress this resto through to completion. A few pics of the repair - solid enough to drill.

JB Weld.......have heard of that and obviously it works a treat.

Is it a two part kneed together type of stuff? I think LocTite do something similar.

About the covers in that they appeared later in the production years aye.
