but it won't do much good either.....

you'll find that there's probably a load of clag (technical term ) built up inside the water jacket

if you're game enough remove the cylinder and strip completely then attack the galleries with a stiff wire
high pressure jet can help, and I've had success in heating and cooling the cylinder and getting at it with the wire

hope that helps

ok thanks guys.i just thought an occassional flush might help prevent the "clag" forming if it was reasonably good in the first place

You do not say exactly what you mean by "radiator flush"

A domestic heating radiator flushing compound? Should not do any harm but may not do much good.

A car radiator flushing compound? Like wise is not going to do any harm but may not do any good either.

To clean up a system that is already a bit clagged up there are several things you could try

RYDLYME which appears to be a hydrochloric acid based cleaner and should be quite effective in removing limescale bound deposits.

A sulphamic acid based central heating boiler de-scaler such as Fernox DS3. Likewise effective in removing limescale and available from plumbers merchants and DIY stores

Holts 2 Step Radflush SEE HERE

As a very drastic measure a hydrochloric acid based brick and masonry cleaner

Dilute it in running Drum first.
