Close ...........No cigar SNP

Post by Dabtoe »

Big day, up early off to Plymouth jumble, going from stall to stall “Some one has just been asking for one of those”, and then, on end,on the floor surely not? I’m now striding quickly the 50 foot, looks right, old army paint, tank strap marks, yellow undercoat didn’t Charlesp say his SNP was covered with canary yellow? Shiny tinning amongst the rust......Ah........wrong lid , bayonet but smaller, no vent screw .....also although 10 “ long it’s 5 and 1/2 diameter on the end,my brass bayonet tanks are 4 and a half inches. It’s tinned inside and out, clean as a whistle inside, how much? “2 quid mate”
I’ll mount it above my test station, for those engines without their tanks on,might even put the Seagull logo on!
Need to get up earlier, was that, Andy in, front looking for bayonet tank lids?

It's thought that the SN, SNP, had the same tank & tank supports as the SD.

2 cast aluminium tank supports & steel 4.5" diameter domed ended tank, with end mounted fuel cap, exactly like the one in the picture of Tam's new toy.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Thanks guys, I’ve got a better idea of what I’m looking for now. Unfortunately the tank supports are plated brass and the tank straps are plated steel, I used it on a Century hence the homemade bracket.

Since Hugo has told me the bottom end is from a later model and it looks like the supports and obviously the tank are later it would seem I have less SNP than I thought.

I notice that the SNP has Villiers magneto and my later 1947 AC has British Seagull on the pull cord, is the changeover date known? And does this indicate the change from old JM spares to British Seagull manufacture?
