Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
Ah - apologies, Hugo, I assumed you were talking about the brass/bronze (?) conventional support lugs (as shown in my pic). Didn't realise you meant the hook-ons for the skeletal bracket.
Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
Probably my mistake Jason. Did the hook ons come in brass? I only have an ali one that is missing its tail. My other skeletal bracket uses the later one as shown in your pic. I'm assuming only the D and C had the skeletal bracket whereas the AD/AC was the first with the removable G clamps. I hypothesise that seagull produced more of the skeletal brackets to be sold separately to meet the demand of the SD (WW2) returning to the civvy population minus the heavy side bracket. Thoughts? Both of my brackets were attached to SD's.
Chris, I'll start fettling in the near future and post pic of strut in situ.

Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
There is a pic on the main site showing a brass hook on, I believe.
Wish I knew enough to have an opinion on it.. but sounds plausible to me...!

I couldn't find it but here is a bracket in question. Missing V strut

Installed. I used an angle grinder and hacksaw to fettle. I'll probably have to bribe the judge at the annual Seagull Concours de Elegance (coz of my fettling) but yes cool job bro's, particularly magic man Nudge!
Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
Hay Hay! That looks the part, Just needs to tarnish up a bit!
Is that the other part that needs to be made in brass / bronze? (that Aluminium part)

Yep, the bit hanging from the top.
Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
Mine are aluminium. I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as the brass/bronze version until this thread!
I have always thought that hook-on arrangement was dodgy at best, and the skeletal bracket to be an odd bit of design. But they do look good.

Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
If the part needs to be made in aluminium then it shouldnt be too bad.... still a bit of work though.
Once again will need a pattern, a part or STL so it can be printed.
Even if the part is broken and we have to print a part to fix it up to use as the pattern.
So should it be brass /bronze or were they only made in aluminium?

That might have been me getting my cues mixed! Has anyone seen brass ones?charlesp wrote:Mine are aluminium. I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as the brass/bronze version until this thread!
Yes they are dodgy. Not sure I would actually use one on a long trip.
I don't have a complete one Nudge.

With the correct safety bar, they won't come off!
Sorry can't remember if I've seen a bronze hook-on gizmo.

Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
Yes & it's got it's locking pin, shame it's not got its tilt support!
That removes any doubts! thanks.
Hugo your going to need a couple of Scotch-Brite pads for your angle grinder (course & fine) to bring the standard of finish up to Seagull's standard & to remove some of the sand marks.

Yes, that's the pic I was thinking of... thanks Keith.
Re: V-strut for Skeletal bracket
Would be the same casting as the ali ones so not a problem to replicate.Charles uk wrote:Yes & it's got it's locking pin, shame it's not got its tilt support!
