Re: Skeletal Bracket
None of mine do, first time I've seen that.
But that brass tube looks Seagull o.e.

Re: Skeletal Bracket
I've got a bolt-on version that is drilled for that bar. It's not threaded. It' very close to the usual bar.
I have found two of the thumbscrew types, both have only a small hole drilled for a bronze split pin that holds a retaining chain.
Curious!

Re: Skeletal Bracket
Made new studs in stainless from a broken QB clutch rod & a transom security bar.
'V-strut' & pads, coming up next...
Thanks fellas. Pretty flimsy things - that extra bar looks like a good idea, Hugo.

Re: Skeletal Bracket
If a drawing to be 3D printed to make a cast doesn't pan out - I plan to steal Charles' when he's not looking & use it to make a casting. Don't tell him.

Re: Skeletal Bracket
You might find that difficult, It's with the draftsman, who's computer has the software that will produce the .STL file that the 3D printer requires.
The drawing will be full size with no added shrinkage allowance, the foundry will tell what the shrinkage allowance should be for the bronze they're using, the 3D printer operator can add the allowance before printing, I'm told.

Re: Skeletal Bracket
You're a star, thanks Charles. Sounds like you've saved me some time rummaging around your boot tomorrow when you weren't looking (no, that's not a euphemism, sorry...!)

My one!who's computer has the software that will produce the .STL file that the 3D printer requires.
And a 3d Printer!!
And the know how for the shrinkage...
Know it all
Well till to comes to getting all the settings perfect on the 3d printer ( or spelling, or pressing submit before closing the window so you dont have to type the post out again )
The STL file works great! Now I have a plastic part for an outboard I don't have..... Now if it was a 1/3 scale crank case that would be a different thing all together!
Ok so you want to see some pics, with out pics it did't happen right!
It took about 3 hours to print at 0.1mm layer height, I need to work out better settings for building on a raft the under side of the part is not 100% other than that it is not too shabby.

Re: Skeletal Bracket
Nicely done..! A BIG thank you to you guys.
Re: Skeletal Bracket
Stage one of the casting process complete
I went down to the foundry today and rammed up 6 brackets. ( I was doing them to keep the cost down)
They will end up being cast in manganese bronze(C863) it is more yellow than brown, close to brass is colour. I was going to see if I could have then made in LG2 (leaded bronze) but he did not have enough and it costs moon beams... so we will go with what we can get.
I would cast these things myself only with work getting in the way at the moment they would be a long time comming!
I will let you know more as it happens!
still need to cut the in gate and runners https://youtu.be/EkVZgN5HVXg
I like fire! Now that is funny I have just tried to turn the photo around.... now there is twice the fire

Re: Skeletal Bracket
That's impressive! I'd still be marking the shape out on brass plate!
Great work

Re: Skeletal Bracket
I left the moulds down the foundry last week....
Called in on Monday, but was not able to get in there to have a look. Spoke to the boss man, he told me he would cast the parts for me later in the week when casting a prop or two.
Will keep you informed as I find out.
It won't happen over night, but it will happen!
