Recoil start on WSPCL

Post by phil »

Just got a WSPCL----NN7 as a parts motor, it has a siba recoil start and plastic tank on it. Were these available on this motor or should I assume they were refits?

Plastic tank came rather later than 1977, so probably that's a replacement.

The Siba recoil start is likely an addition too. These were available later as an add-on accessory from British Seagull in the 'completely enclosed' format - ie the samew shape on top as seen on the later adverts, and carried on through the QB series.

If the recoil is one of those in a steel tube frame it didn't come from British Seagull, who regarded them as unnecessary, and refused to have anything to do with them on safety grounds.
