Brisbane meet - Scarborough Sat 21st April 2012

Post by Buzzook »

Despite the weather forecasters doom and gloom predictions, Sat 21st turned out clear, fine and warm - perfect weather for Seagulls!

Locals present were: Chris and friend Teresa (wife Julie is not good in small boats); Don and Pat (thanks for the pics); Larry; Lindsay; Glenn and ring-in from south of the border, Mark (me)...

Easy launch from the Scarborough east ramp, a short run across Deception Bay and into the Newport Waters canal development, there to locate and investigate the Seagull Canal.....believe it or not, the canals have 'road' signs at the intersections...see photos....

Back to ramp, haul out and regather for lunch at nearby Reef Point Cafe. Top food. Excellent company. Good 'first meet' for the locals to get to know one another. Tick all boxes.

Crossing Deception Bay: Don and Pat's 18' yacht (102 clutch) leads Mark's 11'6" Caribbean (ESC Model 75) and Larry's 16' bondwood sailboat (102 direct drive). Chris is out of sight trying to raise his lug rig in almost zero wind; Lindsay is heading in from another direction in a Yamaha-powered tinnie (after his Seagull failed to keep running)

Don's 102 on fixed drop-down mount on yacht transom ran well on the way over, but refused to start for the trip back until massaged into life by Chris. Spring in carb was not seating properly, so was easy fix.

Larry and Chris and Julie pausing briefly for photo opp at the 'Seagull Canal' sign at the start of the canal. This was just for a bit of fun, but enabled us to fiddle with Don's motor and get it going again, so was worthwhile stop :)
