It must be the picture, but I can't make out the gold plating, maybe this is the platinum plated model?

As experts on these matters does the one on eBay seem genuine?
Square tank on a 1963? Would this be correct?
How often do brand new crated ones come up for grabs?

The tank is not a square one in the photos, it's the standard oval-ended one, and as such would be quite correct for a 1963 motor. I would think that far from being rare there are thousands of these out there - many of them in use. I also wonder about the statement that it's never been out of its crate - how did he get the manuals and stuff out? And why is the corrugated cardboard round the fuel tank missing?

New unused ones do come up occasionally, more often later models. The example in the US photos isn't clear really, I wonder why the vendor felt the need to use a catalogue illustration rather than the actual motor he is selling.

Interesting, but very very expensive. The vendor is having a laugh.

I couldn't help but notice the astonishing start bid, and the 'ask the seller a question' entry that attempts to justify the $2995. The vendor reckons it that's less than the new price.

I just couldn't find the energy that would be needed to dig around in my laughably titled 'office' for a 1963 Practical Boat Owner, but I honestly reckon those things were selling at around £25 in 1963.

That's just about £400 in todays terms according to the 'This is Money' inflation calculator.

The dollar must have suffered....

Yes I think you are right, I would certainly have used the actual gleaming, sparkling brand new engine pictures to head my marketing campaign. Wonder why there aren't any? I went off into a little fantasy for an hour of owning a new boxed one then remembered the better half and thought about living in a shed next to my new engine for several months until she had cooled down. $1,900.00.... oh and another £250 to have it shipped over. Eek!!
