How to un block a fuel tap ?

This tap was soaked for over a week in petrol but still remains blocked.

I thought to drill it out via the threaded opening but it seems the fuel drain hole is offset and near the back of the gallery?

I then made a pointed pick, that did very little?

Does anyone have a method to clear the blockage.

What about a small hole in the filter screen, drill via that then solder the hole up?

I did wonder how that filter was attatched?

If it is solder that is the way I will try it in the morning.

Right now the assembly is in a bath of Oxalic Acid.

Do you access to an ultrasonic cleaner?

Try a small one with diesel or white spirit in it, and keep an eye on the diesel temperature.

Nothing like that, I do have a bead blasting cabinet but in this case that will not be of use.

A gas flame from our kitchen cooker melted the solder, so now I can drill it clear, can I solder it back in ?

Blocked is not the word! how did this lot go past the mesh filter I wonder?

Check the angle of the 3mm drill bit.

JB Weld can be used on petrol tanks so I may fit the wire filter tube in with JB Weld epoxy?

The brass body and the plunger have now been beed blasted clean, next is to fit a service kit to ensure the tap does not leak?

Looking much better can't you not just resolder gauze filter back on it might need to come back of some day and how about boiling the old plunger Cork for ten minutes in an old sause pan then let dry out and coat with some vasaline .

Good point and a nice idea.

I did try to solder the gauze filter back but the gauze was dirty from the gas flame, I have now blasted it clean and also cleaned the brass entry with a 1/4" drill bit.

Enough heat is the issue now?

I need to strip the plunger out with the new cork seal, then pre heat the body on an electric cooker plate, then re try with the soldering iron?
