Water Pump Gasket

Post by Cheshire Cat 4 »

Hi,
Could somebody tell me if the gasket between the water pump housing and the gearbox
on my Forty + is fitted dry or should it have some kind of gasket solution on it
Many thanks

If the faces are in good order I would be inclined to not put any sealant on there.

Is it a bakelite gasket or paper/asbestos type?

If bakelite, then as per Oyster.

If paper/asbestos then a smidge of something gooey wont do any harm.

Until you try to separate the gear box from the water pump housing & wreck the gasket, No sticky stuff You could give it a wipe of grease if you have to.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.
